Anyone Remember Lene Marlin?
Anyone remember the ultra mellow, relatively hot indiepop singer from Europe Lene Marlin?
She sung uhm "Sitting down Here" and "Unforgivable Sinner"
Apparently shes got a new single out in the UK this week. Her fans on her message board, bless em, are on the awareness trek to raise her profile in the UK again - where shes considered a relative One hit wonder. Im all for supporting these fans who rally their singers and plug them at every opportunity - because sometimes singers deserve more recognition than they get. You can sample the songs on her website - with "Another Day" being the strongest. She looks like Elisha Cuthberth these days,
Her new songs are pretty enjoyable - they aren't going to blow away any record books. But they are a damn sight better than anything Ameripop is offering right now. And for that matter Britpop. Marlin knows how to write good songs. Like Vanessa Carlton she has commercial sensabilities to her music and can easily encorprate the right hooks and riffs to make a song "stick" - even if shes clearly poppier than her American counterparts.
I like the feeling of nostalgia i get from seeing old bands and singers return. I was watching Cornershop on VH1 today. Heh.
