Let me tell you though man, it's nothing great. It's not a bad album, at all, but it's not nearly as exciting as Frances The Mute. It's too predictable and doesn't have the sense of purpose or occasional enigmatic emotion as Frances or De-Loused did. It feels like a run-through of everything you'd expect them to do at this point, plus it often meanders without flow. I mean, Cedric channelling Geddy Lee on a dozen hits of acid? Check. Noise freak-outs? Check. Occasional electronic noodling? Check. Throbbingly intense guitar-driven music followed by a gentle, Latin-oriented, paranoid crooning? Check. It is a good album, with fantastic playing (the bass in Day Of The Baphomets made me cum) and plenty of the good Volta intensity to rock out to, but it's too calculated to be anywhere near their last album. I give it a weak 3.5/5 for now, but I might need to listen to it more (it took me a half-dozen listens to truly love Frances).
