Spears bestselling artist/No album for 2005
Britney Spears has emerged as the biggest- selling female artist of this century as the singer's records have outsold all of her counterparts.
Britney, who has even beaten Madonna , has been more successful than any of her female peers in the past five years.
Even big-name stars including Kylie, Dido, Beyonce, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston have been overshadowed by Britney's soaring sales.
'It really is extraordinary. Britney and everyone here are thrilled. To become the biggest selling female artist of the past five years was amazing, but to outsell Madonna over the past half a decade is beyond our wildest dreams. It just goes to show what a musical force Britney is,' a spokesperson from Jive Records, was quoted by the Daily Mail, as saying.
--------
After being literally everywhere in 2003 & 2004, Britney Spears may be overexposed...[duh] fear record label Jive.
Spears had fans riled up and ready to go after already blowing their budget on her Greatest Hits album, when, just after Christmas - she announced a new album tentatively titled "The Original Doll" - trashing her supposed plans for a break.
But Jive really insist that Spears takes s'more time off - they feel that the media has been saturated with too much Spears in the past few years - as nearly internet, columnspace or frontpage count could tell you, and her under development album has been pushed back until 2006.
However, it looks to be worth the wait - Spears has recruited team "Toxic" in great quantity to work on the new album - with Cathy Dennis and Bloodshy re-teaming for a track called "Hollow", and Dennis, the songwriter for "Toxic" also teaming up with Guy Chambers on numerous other tracks.
Spears impressed in 2003 when her "In the Zone" provided a surprisingly edgy new sound, and opened up her appeal to an older segment.

I dont know? Britney Spears has sold something like 110 million records in her career already - and most of which was IN the last decade.
Shania Twains sold something like 85-90 Million i think
Norah Jones seems to sell huge amounts of albums - but not singles. Spears however sells both.
However, its all true - but it didnt really specify over at worldofbritney.org.

not that big of a feat considering it's only been 5 years into the century. There will be more artists that come out in the next 95 years that outsell britney.

Let's see... Britney released Baby One More Time in 1999, which sold something like 11.5 million copies. Oops I Did It Again, released May 2000, sold over 10, I think. Britney sold about 5, and In The Zone has nearly 3. And then her Greatest Hits added 600k to her total. And then with Single sales, I can definitely see how she'd be the best selling artist in the last five years.
