 Summer Jobs
Well, I'm about two weeks away from summer vacation (thank god..), and it's time to look for a job.
I'm 16, now, so there are more oppurtunities than when I was 15.
I just applied online for Best Buy (since it's, like, a three minute car ride from my house), and I'm hoping I get accepted. [-o<
If not, though, I still need to apply other places. Any ideas?
(I prefer not to work at a fast-food resteraunt.)

grocery store is a solid summer job. they are always looking for summer help. it's nice if you can get into the dairy or frozen department. it's a nice relief during hot summer days

It's pretty late to start lookign for a summer job eh? Fast food restaurants are that bad. At first I said I was never going to work with food but look at me now. I'm a god damn manager at burger king. Easy friggin' work.

You're a manager?!
Hmm. Well, it's kinda late, but I've been workin' on, like, 3 trillion different projects lately.

Not sad. More like surprising. I didn't think they gave out manager positions to 17 year olds...

Just a shift manager. I'm not the manager everytime I go to work. I work 4 out of the next 5 days and I only have 1 manager shift. But I'm not complaining, I'm getting around 50-60 hours a paycheck.

I actually have tow jobs this summer. I've been working as a lifeguard/swim instructor at the YMCA since December, and a few co workers work for a local company called Pro Pool who run about fifty different subdivision type pools open during the summer, so I'm snagging about ten hours a week there, on top of my 25+ at the Y.
I'm going to be one rich SOB by September.
Seriously, you have no idea how easy it is to lifeguard. Do it. I got $7.20 an hour starting pay, and my friend (who works for the city, mind) makes $6.50. From the city.
It's a highly profitable practice.

 Re: Summer Jobs
Why don't you volunteer at a Planned Parenthood and learn what real hardship and tough decisions are, so that when you actually die you've done a little penance for your April Fool's "Joke"

This is going to be my first "extended summer" in many years due to graduation and certainly my last one for years to come, so I am sure as heck not working, but much rather try to enjoy every single bit of my free time.

I hope Best Buy takes you. That will give me one more reason not to go there :-P

So Deutsch. So very Europäisch.
No wonder your economies have stalled.

J/K?
This is true. It is "so Deutsch". Germany has the reputation of being effecient and hard-working and all, but that is a myth. One of the laziest nations around.

Which makes me wonder how the heck it went from being the big loser of WW2 to the biggest economy in Europe and third biggest in the world. Where the heck did those $2.9T come from?
Thing is, as a student and would-be scholar, the idea isn't necessarily unappealing to me. I hate it when people dismiss the fact that I opt to study for 6-10 hrs a da on my own, as if I'm joking, or as if that's not "real" work.
Bleh.

It is work and pressure. I need a break.
Germany got a new start after WW2, so in the end, the World War had an advantage to Germany, in a macabre way. Germany could restart from the very beginning and re-build the entire nation. It was an economic miracle. Had a lot to do with the very young population (average age in the 60s was about 30-35) and the high birth rate.

I've had a job for a year on and of for a year now at this place Fanno Creek Clinic, it's consistent, they're lenient with what hours I have, and I'm getting 8.50 an hour now, good stuff.

That's one of the ironies of the War. Germany and Japan totally left the UK and France biting the dust. In fact, Japan's economy is bigger than France's and the UK's combined. Heh.

Japan got the best deal out of the whole thing. I mean if someone thinks back to WW II most just think of Germany. No one thinks of Japan and all the stuff they did in China. They avoided the blame...

Yup, it's a travesty. Not only did they committ terrible atrocities, but they were rewarded for it with handsome trade and peace deals with the UK and the US.*
If it was in the US', UK's, France's, and Russia's interest to hide Germany's crimes, they would have done so easily. No Nuremberg trial, etc. But it's better to shame them into submission.
Of course, then Germany goes and ends up with a bigger economy than any of them except America, lol...
*I don't mean to imply that it was because of those atrocities, but rather, inspite of those. And those atrocities, btw, were committed against Americans and Britons as well, of course (POWs, and so on).
