 Who uses a fitness tracker?
I do not, however I have just started using WeChat's step tracking app, WeRun. I'm interested in how many steps I do each day. I do not expect it to be 100% accurate (but apparently it is very clever and distinguishing between a step and other movements, and it uses an accelerometer, GPS, height etc. to work out stride and likely steps), I am just interested in overall trends of which days I moved more. I would like to get a wristband or foot thingy (I think they're called pods) to track steps, but I'll see how this app goes first.
So, I wonder, how far has this fitness revolution gone. I mean, the big one is the FitBit. Who has one of those? There are TONS more. I'd be interested to know who uses what (app, wearable, both) and how often, and to track what.

I used to. But I stopped working out. So I stopped wearing it. Once I move I was planning on starting jogging again, so maybe I will purchase a new one.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
I do about 12,00 0 steps on average. When I worked, I did about 15,000 a day. On a sedentary day, I did sometimes less than 2,000. My record is 24,000.

Fitbit and I do not recommend if you have ocd tendencies. I average about 230,000 steps per week. Record is 65,000 in a day.

I casually watch (track would be too strong a verb) my steps with the Health iPhone app.

Either I'm dead and I've not realised it yet or the app is shit. But it is so weird because LOADS of people use it (many of my WeChat contacts) and apparently it is very accurate (so says an Indian "machine learning" colleague - and I guess he should know).

I run a lot and when I got fitbit I started to do it to an unhealthy extent. I have an office job but I often run 2x a day and rarely ever take a day off unless injured.

The most anyone in my circle of friends does is around 15k in a day, but then they work all day.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
I used to work in a warehouse, so I walked all day. And then I would run about 2 miles every night. The most I ever got was 15k steps. So I'm calling bullshit on 65,000 steps. That's over 30 miles.

That's over 30 miles. That is just a record not an average or anything close. It required running 16 miles and two rounds of golf in the same day plus additional walking to get that high. I am not saying it is a good thing or healthy. It is not. It is a little before 7 am where I am and I am already at 11K, it isn't that hard. That's just about 1 hour of running.

I don't know about specific numbers, but I do hear it is quite easy to rack up a few thousand steps within an hour.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
Yeah, but that pace is a run, so no wonder you're racking up so many. But I just meant normal day-to-day walking, perhaps walking to work or walking around the office ... you can rack up 2-3k pretty easily.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
I just started using one, S Health, which comes on a Samsung device. I use it primarily to count calories, because I've wanted to lose a bit of weight for a while now and staying under my daily calories is the only way that works for me. There's a step counter on it as well, but that just reminds me I should probably move a bit more, so I ignore it.

If you can walk around for about 15-20 minutes at a normal walking pace, you should hit 2k. 2k is about the average steps it takes to walk a mile.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
So I got a MiBand activity and sleep tracker. Yesterday was my first full day using it. I did 5.3k steps, which just seems incredible because I only went out once for about 2 hours for some sushi at a nearby shopping mall. I have a child so obviously I am walking a lot indoors, but still I am surprised by that number because a colleague stated that he does 3-4k daily and that that is the normal amount.
Sleep tracking is brilliant. It knew the minute I went to sleep. How it knew that is beyond me. I had a sleep for 6hr 47m and only 10 of those minutes were deep sleep. This technology is incredible.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
So I got a step-counter watch as well 3 weeks ago, MiBand 2.
I average about 10K steps a day. My record is 28K steps, and that involved coaching soccer as well as playing a 40min game myself.
During a working day I usually only rack up about 6K steps, but during the whole weekend I do about 35-40K, when I'm on the soccer field.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
My maximum is 17k. I also average 10k per day. I love my tracker, too. I think it's such a great technology. My boss is always putting them down, calling them useless and not claiming they don't help people to reach goals etc. But I couldn't disagree more. Since I've had it, I've improved my fitness a great deal.

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
Waste of money. If your step tracker can do steps, it can also do calories and distance. What else do you really need?

Re: Who uses a fitness tracker?
Different trackers can do a lot more neat stuff. I do like the sleep tracker my band offers too. The downer of a tracker on the phone (only), is just that misses out on the movement when you don t have the phone on you. But if you do, which it perhaps seems like, it really depends what more you want out of it in terms of tracking.

I utilize the fitibit charge HR for work purposes since they pay out a small bonus ever quarter if you have enough activity points registered via RedBrick
