Post Is it ever okay to be selfish?
I feel like I'm a pretty selfless person most of the time. But my family really really annoys me sometimes. I feel they make all of their decisions on things without consulting me. We essentially cancelled our Thanksgiving plans because my dad has a cough (which he is very good at covering). This really upset me, because we won't get to see any relatives and we'll be stuck around the house all day. My grandma usually cooks for us, but last year she hurt herself. Rather than ask anyone else to cook, she just bought a bunch of crappy frozen foods. The compound of these two things really set me off, and I feel bad for making a stink, but I feel both situations could have been avoided had anyone asked me my frigging opinion. I would have loved to help cook, as would have my dad, and it was my grandma who judged my dad as sick and cancelled our plans, even though he was feeling fine enough to go when I asked him. Am I just being a complete bitch or am I right to be upset?

Jesus, what's up with all the questions?

Also, everyone is always selfish. Altruism doesn't really exist.

Of course it is "okay" to be selfish. It's the norm.

When you're young, you really don't get a say in these things. So... sorry?

Ok here a secret. You are stil under 18 or around that age...right?
They dont give a shit. That is how adults are. Sometimes they pretend to give a shit and very very rarely they do. Otherwise they dont.

Fair enough. But not sure what horniness has to do with your grandma buying frozen food.

Yes.

Every person has their own needs which need to be attended. If they're not, issues almost always arise sooner rather than later. Ideally, you surround yourself with people who accept and respect your needs and thusly one rarely feels "selfish" because the others - partners, friends, etc - are eager to please, and merely expect the same of you when time comes.

Yes, it's okay... but it's not okay if you're being selfish to the point where you're affecting someone else negatively.
