RIP. Horror is not my genre at all, but A Nightmare on Elm Street and the Scream movies are iconic pieces of film, among others.

Re: Wes Craven dies at 76
Sad news. New Nightmare may be my favorite movie of his. Never sure if I prefer it or the original Elm Street.
He directed a few duds (the wildly re-shot and uneven Cursed, the truly dire My Soul to Take), but made more entertaining films than not and gave birth to two undeniable genre icons in Freddy Krueger and Ghostface. Red Eye is a strong late-career film.
His name was also super-cool and perfect-sounding for a horror director.

Re: Wes Craven dies at 76
This is still one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever, let alone any horror movie. Terrifying.
Red Eye is one of my favorite movies of the 2000s, an underrated gem that won't be listed in any of the brief obits about his career (of course, the deserving Elm Street and Scream franchises will take that honor).
A Wikipedia entry has listed his Cause of Death as "killed in his dreams".
Cute.

Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 3 are all good to great. Wes Craven's New Nightmare is pretty good too. The original and the third Nightmare of Elm Street's are just ok at best. Not a fan of that franchise really. And then we come to Cursed. Total crap. I think I saw Vampire in Brooklyn once. T'was ok.
All in all, a good career. But I need to see Red Eye.

Red Eye is good and worth watching.
RIP Wes Craven - certainly an icon of the genre.
Red Eye is one of the few times Craven directed a straight up thriller that didn't really have horror elements (possibly the only time). It's very good, though. Great performances from McAdams and Cillian Murphy.
If John Wick 2 even makes 30 million I will eat 1,000 shoes.
Same.

Do people find them scary though? Admittedly I did, but then I watched it when I was around 12-years old. I think most just like the way the movies are made; it's cool, with good tunes, and hot girls/guys. They don't define a generation, but lots of 30-somethings remember it fondly. Plus, there's the whole spoof angle to admire. I think they're just very good at what they do, which isn't actually to scare people -- it's to mock the scare.

Re: Wes Craven dies at 76
Scream was the first horror movie I remember watching (by choice(I was forced to watch Child's Play as a toddler by family members)) and it still, til this day, remains my favorite slasher film if not a top 5 horror film. The opening scene with Drew Barrymore was so unbelievably well directed and terrifying that it still gets me tense. I'm a sucker for all of the Scream films and literally re-watched them all a couple weeks ago. The man was a master of horror and will forever be known as a legend. I am very sad of his passing.
Odd bit of trivia: he acted on a favorite short-lived Neil Patrick Harris/Tony Shalhoub sitcom of mine, Stark Raving Mad, playing author Terrance Sterling. Shalhoub played a horror author in the series.
I said it was an odd bit of trivia, not interesting.
