What's the most beautiful city you've been to?
So I'm anticipating a return to civilization in two weeks (even though I love the beach).
I've been thinking about taking a trip over my Winter Break, maybe to Memphis. Don't ask. Anyway, it got me wondering about city architecture and culture...hence the question.
I think Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities... It has a beautiful beach/port area, European-styled plazas, and Gaudi architecture.
In the U.S.: I think San Francisco is tops, no doubt.
But NW D.C. is the most pleasant city to walk around in the East Coast. Downtown NW D.C. isn't hustle-and-bustle nor sterile...it's, like, perfect.

I tried hard to appreciate Paris. Just couldn't do it. I was only in the city for a day though so I missed some of the sights.

Hmm, depends on the definition of beautiful. Architecture-wise and all? Rome, definitely.

Edinburgh was beautiful to walk around in, what with the cobblestone streets and the friggin' castle.
Boston (and Cambridge) is a great city for walking, too; having lived there for 12 years I did a lot of walking.

Paris and Bruges
Northern Italy as a whole is pretty much up there with those places.

In the U.S.? San Francisco.
Overseas, I would say Paris.

I would have said Boston, but since it's like my "home city" I wasn't sure if that counts, but yeah, definitely.
Chicago, too.

Re: What's the most beautiful city you've been to?
Bruges too, but that's not really a city.
Paris is pretty ugly outside of the landmarks. The whole place smells of urine.

I'm not sure how I'd rank Shanghai yet. On the hour ride from the airport, I saw an unbelievable amount of construction and urban sprawl. I know Tokyo and Mumbai and even NYC are bigger but Shanghai seems colossal.

I'd never rate any Italian city on the most beautiful list. I appreciate Italy for all the history it has, but I find their cities to be crumbling and dirty.
