It's 80 degrees right now. Don't know whether to be weirded out that I'm sitting by a pool drinking egg nog on Christmas Eve or totally loving it.

 Re: Christmas
Well, I just got out of work. I have to be back at 6AM but I have a short day (I'm scheduled to get out at 11AM, but I may leave around 10 or 10:30). Then my boyfriend and I are heading to my grandma's house (they haven't met him yet. I hate introducing boyfriends to family members lol). Then him and I are seeing Wolf of Wall Street at 5:15 and then after that going to my dad's for a bit.
I don't know if I'm excited or not. I'm so in the Christmas spirit but it's the first Christmas without my Granny. She was in the hospital last Christmas, but we still got to see her and everything.. It's pretty sad. Plus I'm moving and I've been busy packing and stuff, so I'm already exhausted.

 Re: Christmas
Merry Christmas everyone.
Day is over here. I've eaten and drank way too much at my mothers place - roast duck, chicken, lamb Korma, roast potatoes, plus a delicious Trifle for desert. Then drinks at the in laws.
Just want to sleep now.

 Re: Christmas
Today was just a normal day. Nobody even said Merry Christmas. Well, one girl did. But none of the foreigners I work with even mentioned it.

 Re: Christmas
I was always The Grinch or Scrooge at Christmas time. But being in China has really shown me how important Christmas is to me. Now, I'm not talking about listening to Christmas songs all day and displaying some false happiness just because it's Christmas time, but it's the small things that I miss. I actually love the country shutting down for a few days. The feeling that you are all partaking in a festival and its magic. Presents do not bother me either, but knowing that on the same day, everyone in the country is eating turkey or a Yorkshire pudding or brussel sprouts or pulling a cracker, then being full and watching TV for hours. It's that that I miss.
China is shit, and incredibly boring. Even at Chinese New Year, you get 7 days off in a row, but you have to work the two preceding Saturdays and one following to kind of make up for it (so you actually only get 2 days off that are paid for). This country just has an uncaring and stubborn obsession about welfare and money. China is not a country for living, it's a country for working. I hate it. You want to live and work, but ultimately enjoy life, go to the West. China may be the apparent next superpower, but it will be the most miserable country ever if they don't try to create a culture where they care for one another.

 Re: Christmas
Chinese don't like it when I mention Tiennemann Square. They all go quiet and act as though they have no idea what I'm talking about (which, of course, might not be an act). I'm sure some must know what I'm mentioning, and you can see the fear inside..."the spies are listening, I mustn't mention it". I love to bring up the stains on a nation's history. Love it. Love it more than anything.
