10th Annual WOKJ Motion Picture Awards Announcement
Yes....they are coming. Watch this space.
The last awards were our most active in, I think over fie years, so let's top that for the 10th anniversary edition.
Let me hereby open the discussion on how you expect the awards to shape up this year. I'm going predict Blue is the Wamrest Color to be the first foreign-language Best Picture nominee since Let the Right One In.

Re: 10th Annual WOKJ Motion Picture Awards Announcement
Best Picture is going to be crowded this year, just like last year. Gravity is a lock of course. 12 Years a Slave should be as well given its reception here. And The Wolf of Wall Street will be in given Scorsese' track record here; don't see it pulling a Django Unchained or Shutter Island with only BD and no BP. The rest will be interesting between Coens, Russell, Greengrass, Before Midnight, and Blue.

And in the end, I see this as a battle of Cuarón/Scorsese again, a.k.a 2006, except with Cuarón's film dominating this time.

Re: 10th Annual WOKJ Motion Picture Awards Announcement
I wonder how Catching Fire will fare. The reactions on WOKJ are pretty enthusiastic.
Right now, I'm thinking the BP nominees could be The Wolf of Wall Street, Gravity, American Hustle, Blue is the Warmest Color and Before Midnight with 12 Years a Slave shockingly missing.

I think BP will look like this...
Gravity 12 Years a Slave American Hustle Wolf Of Wall Street Captain Phillips
With Wolf taking it.

The Best Picture and Director categories will probably look identical to the Oscars. The rest is anybody's guess, but I know that Jennifer Lawrence will win Best Actress.

Let's hope this year's Most Overlooked Film is as good as last year's.

Interesting to see Blue is being called out. Don't think many people would have seen it.

Ah, last year. When a romantic comedy won Best Picture. I was so proud of KJ! Algren wrote: The rest is anybody's guess, but I know that Jennifer Lawrence will win Best Actress. I'll be nominating her but she won't be my pick to win (that would be Cate Blanchett or possibly Sandra Bullock).

Re: 10th Annual WOKJ Motion Picture Awards Announcement
Adèle Excharpoulos and Judi Dench are my best-actress favorites this year, though obviously I still have films left to see, such as American Hustle and The Invisible Woman.
Three films I earnestly implore people to see: All Is Lost, Byzantium, and Stories We Tell. The latter two are available now on home video.

You'll surely pick her to win Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle, though, right?

Re: 10th Annual WOKJ Motion Picture Awards Announcement
I predict:
12 Years a Slave (Hollywood loves films about racism) Gravity Saving Mr. Banks (Hollywood loves films about Hollywood) Captain Phillips The Butler (Hollywood loves films about racism)
There will probably be 8 or 9 nominees again, but these are the ones I am predicting as locks. Not that these things can really be completely predictable ... Oscar also loves to surprise.

WOKJ is not giving out the Oscars (yet). I think there is a better chance that WWZ will be nominated for BP here than The Butler.

Sorry, you are correct; I was predicting the Oscars, not the WOKJ Awards. My bad; should have posted this in the right thread.

Nah, you got the right thread. This year has been especially bad for posters basically just agreeing with everything that seems awardsy. Expect the top Oscar nominees to also be the top WOKJ nominees/winners.

Usually we have a universally beloved blockbuster or hyper violent drama that gets ignored by awards, but there doesn't seem to be one this year. No Nolan, Cameron or Tarantino. Man of Steel, Oblivion and Star Trek have support, but not enough. And I can campaign for World's End all I want and it won't make a difference. Maybe Gatsby or Side Effects will sneak in?
