So...I assume most of you were following this while it was happening? They finally reached land in Alabama yesterday.

Sounds like hell on earth, and makes me wary of being on a cruise for a while. lol

That's what I don't understand either. Wouldn't it have just made sense to send an equal sized cruise ship and move everyone off the crippled one?

I mean, I understand that would have been an expensive endeavor, but Carnival cruise line is going to face a crippling PR disaster from this.

Maybe there wasn't one available, nor if you have one cruise ship with 4000+ passengers and crew you can't just go about ruining even more peoples vacation or maybe even fitting them on another ship.

Here's some info via cnn

Quote:
Carnival said it would give each passenger $500, a free flight home, a full refund for their trip and for most expenses on board, as well as a credit for another cruise.

Even after this debacle, I'd take all that.

Reasons why it took so long.

I don't understand why this was the main story on the news last night.

Oh noes, some rich people were being forced to live better than 50% of the world's population for a few days!

Bus carrying passengers from disabled cruise ship breaks down on way to New Orleans

HOUSTON — Some passengers who fled the disabled Carnival cruise ship Triumph and left Alabama aboard charter buses suffered yet another setback on their way home when one of the buses broke down.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen says a bus got sidelined Friday on the way to New Orleans after leaving Mobile, Ala.

He says another bus was available and those aboard were transferred and continued to New Orleans where they arrived safely later Friday morning.

The ship carrying some 4,200 people and under tow by tugboats docked late Thursday, after an engine-room fire Sunday left it powerless and adrift.

Carvinal tours are not very expensive...

Also the problem was not "OMG its hot!"

Its the problem of sewage and such..

I been back in India and sometimes lived in rather shody accomodations but there was always an isolated place to go to the washroom.

That really wasn't the issue people on the ship were complaining about, it was the terrible conditions associated with sewage and no running water.

They're "rich" in a global sense. Compared to most of the world's population.

My main point was that this should not have been the main story of the night on the news.

They did not suffer long enough, in my opinion.

It should not be main news but its like hey people went on vacation and turned into a trip from hell..

I think people need to remember and I have lived without AC or in a shabby place or without electricity for a few days back in India.

The thing is that hygiene was always kept...

Rather silly to go in a snobby, thumbing your nose attidue "Ah ha, the bourgeois suffer, ahahaha! "

At least they didint have one of those funny "diarrhea epedemic on a cruise ship" events. Much more fun if you have to wait two weeks in an harbor and cant leave the ship.

I see where Groucho and others are coming from.

Basically, a cruise = vacation. And a vacation = a luxury certain people don't get to enjoy, especially on a cruise ship, expensive or otherwise.

I don't see what their wealth has to do with their hardships. If it's news worthy, it's news worthy. I don't believe they were being given medals, just a couple of minutes of air time.

For the record, I've largely avoided this news. I'm not saying who's right and who's wrong. I'm just seeing where Groucho and others are coming from.

Though if I had known there were hardships, I may have watched for the entertainment.

So anyone who takes a vacation is well off and shouldn't complain about anything? lolz you guys are fucking idiots.

Also, the reason why it's news is cause it's a fairly unique story, no one died so people can talk about it without sadness (and also can make jokes about it), and its the middle of February and there's nothing else that's not depressing to talk about.

I don't give a shit about the story honestly and don't give a shit about the coverage it got. That's the way news has worked for the last 10 years. Get over it and stop complaining like bitches.

This. Bitches.

But he didn't say that either.

Whatever though. I still :wub2: you.

Well, your aim is terrible.

Oh, wait! I see now! You pretended I said something I didn't so you could feel all superior and insulting to me, as a way to assert yourself! Kind of a fake build up of your self-esteem thing.

How'd that work out for you?
