Redmond, WA, Apr. 12 (UPI) -- Microsoft Corp. has announced it will allocate $714 million in its third quarter to cover antitrust claims by computer maker Gateway Inc., and others.
As a result of findings in the Department of Justice's antitrust suit against the Redmond, Wash., software maker in the late-1990s, Microsoft issued a statement detailing the claims it was settling and a fund to cover other, undisclosed outstanding claims.
The company said it will pay $150 million to Gateway over four years, settling previously undisclosed claims raised by Gateway. Microsoft said the settlement will result in a $123 million charge in the fiscal third period, which ended March 31.
The Wall Street Journal said the list of payments include $41 million to settle patent infringement and antitrust claims brought by Burst.com Inc.
In addition, Microsoft said it will establish a $550 million reserve to cover other antitrust claims it did not specify.
The company didn't disclose the impact of the charges on its third-quarter results, but more details will be provided in an April 28 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the report said.
Holy god thats alot. Can not possibly be good for their bottomline.
