Worst trends in recent history
On the heels of the "worst places in America" thread...
Enough said. I guess some of y'all are too young to remember when the Macarena craze briefly swept America in 1996. I still have memories of going to a wedding and seeing so many old people and relatives dancing to this back when it was "cool." Embarrassing!

Anyone else feel like this thread is just a vehicle for Libs to rag on YOLO?

I dunno if YOLO really counts as a trend.
It's more of an excuse for me to look back at growing up in the 90s and remembering asinine things that happened. But the 80s and the 2000s are certainly fair game too.

#twitter "reality" tv The Beckham haircut Planking
The antismoking movement waged against the Privacy of lawful Adult Americans who do not blow smoke in the face of Others.
Followed swiftly by the Anti-Salt in your Meats, French Fries and Soups Movement (which replaced table salt with vitamin-destroying Phosphates as 'the preservative of choice?', followed by the Anti-Sugar in your Cookie Movement, followed by the Anti-Fat in your Char-Broil Hamburger Movement, followed by the Anti-"Happy Meal" Movement, followed by the current Anti Obesity and Anti-Soda movement; being waged by many of the same busybod lawyers who waged war as 'the antismoking movement'; for Big $$, 'For the Good of Us All'.
Dryers/Eddys Ice Cream tried to be PC. They dropped the dairy fat and then rebranded their product as 'a frozen dairy dessert'. But it was no longer Ice Cream. The People caught it and Sales plummeted. Dryer's/Eddys was forced to change back to good old Ice Cream with a repackaging of the container. Sales have yet to recover while Dryer's/Eddys Ice Cream, the real deal, is currently low priced @ $3 a carton to woo back their lost customers.
Aren't the antis wonderful? Now if they would only support the products which they destroy, but they won't.
And Bailouts with the subsequent drop in depositor interest rates.

As for TV
SprongeBob Pokemon Reality Shows (Really there was a time MTV actually showed music videos and not wannabe gangstas with their pussy problems)

You were watching the wrong channel then, VH1 was THE show for trashy epic reality shows from The Surreal Life to Megan Wants a Millionaire. that had to be one of the best trends on tv ever.
