It's still nice to have our country's leader on the right side of history and civil rights.

Marriage should be de-legalized.

I'm surprised Clint said that. I'd always heard he was anti-gay. Not to mention he's a Republican.

 Re: Obama likes the gayz
Well at least he finally took a stand.
I don't know why state's are passing legislation defining marriage because I still believe that in the end any law passed barring gay "marriage" will eventually be overturned by the SC at some point. I just can't see how people continue to make the argument that those in committed relationships and/or family units aren't entitled to the same benefits that current married couples receive. It just makes no sense.

In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.
In this situation, it was the other way around. I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox.
Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking. In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.

 Re: Obama likes the gayz
Chris Rock kind of said it best about gay marriage and this so-called sanctity bullshit. When you have people going on shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette looking to find their spouse, the whole "this is sacred" argument goes out the window. Kim Kardashian can marry someone for 72 days, for the sole purpose of publicity, and that's okay? But two happy people of the same gender can't enjoy that?
To me, this will be a non-issue in the next ten-to-twenty years anyway. There will be a time in the near future when people won't believe you that gay marriage was illegal. Just like interracial relationships now still have that minority saying "Stay with your own!!", they're still be opposition. Just not much opposition.
Of course, that reminds me of the done-do-death joke about it: don't gay people have the right to be miserable like everyone else?

I'll never vote for another president who doesn't support marriage equality. It's just time for this to stop, and if I have to vote donkey for a while to facilitate it, so be it.

However being Conservative does not = Anti Gay. Its rather stupid to think. There a lot of blanket statements about Liberals and lefties I can make which are not all true either. I am more of a fiscal Conservative and rather uncaring about such issues. I think Gays should be allowed to be married because it has no bad effects on anyone really. Who cares really? The country is an economic decline...not thats a real issue.

It just makes no sense. The only way they will actually receive the same benefits is if the Supreme Court overturns DOMA (the law that makes it so the Federal Government does not recognize any gay marriages no matter if they are legal in the states individually). Right now many gay marriages in the States are just a piece of paper...I have friends with 2 kids who pay $10,000 more a year in taxes because their marriage is not recognized federally.

 Re: Obama likes the gayz
you must remember Republicans are mostly social conservatives. (Neoconservative vs Neoliberalism) Fiscal conservatives and Libertarians are a big group in all parties in America. Democrats, GOP and Independents. Frankly I do not give him many points on this issue. This is just an election ploy and he likely was on side a year or so ago. He is trying to make the election on social values then the economy...

 Re: Obama likes the gayz
Neoconservativism refers to the philosophy of privatization of former government services due to the belief in the private sector being superior than the public sector. You can be a social liberal and a neo-con, at least from what I've read.

 Re: Obama likes the gayz
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/poll ... 04738.htmlAs I expected, this was just a stupid political game for Obama... He likley changed his stance a while ago. However I doubt this helps or hurts him much politically. Democrats will vote him anyways. Independents don't care about social issues. However, its nice to see the change...

What the hell are you talking about? How is this a "political game"? How did he change his stance a while ago?
Did you even read that article? Seriously.

 Re: Obama likes the gayz
The point of the article is that many see this as being a political game rather then Obama having a sudden change of heart.
Clearly there is some sort of political game being played. He clearly wants to make this a wedge issue.

So? You know another wedge issue? Being a Democrat/Republican.
