Post Sub-Vocalization??? How to break a habit???
Does anyone here Subvocalize while reading???

This is where you repeat the words in your head while reading them. The small little voice in your head says the words.

Anyway to break this habit?

Basically, seeking people who have had this habit, broke it, but still have a very good comprehension of material.

Thank You!!! Gracias!!!

Well, I still do it on occasion. I found it depends on if I'm distracted or not. I didn't realize that's what it was called. Maybe pick up a really easy piece of literature thats a mystery. I've found when I'm sleep and just want to read before bed, if I pick up something hard I do what you just mentioned, and also tend to re-read lines and lose my space alot. But if a pick up a really easy page turner I don't have that problem. And also, when I'm very well rested and somewhere comfty and quiet I don't do that as often. But for me it mostly depends on the language. I found when reading cantos that I always do that no fails. Tougher language and choppier sentence structure doesn't let you "get into the flow" as much. I don't know if that helped at all?

What exactly do you mean by repeating the words in the back of your head?

How else are you supposed to comprehend what you read if you arent paying attention?

That's not just a habit coolmoviedude, that's how you read, that's how it's done.

There are hundreds/thousands of articles on this topic really. It's a conflicting topic.

Many people do not subvocalize at all. The words just sort of flow to them.

You have your people who see purely by visual images. These people also tend to read faster and comprehend better.

Thats why some people say that the words just sort of flow to them. Some people have no idea what the little voice even is because they dont have it or just dont hear it while reading.

As you've said, I'm one of the people for whom the words just flow, though I oft tend to go visual and the words tend to conjure up images in my mind. The only time that I'd say that I would sub-vocalize is when I come across a word that I've never seen and I repeat it several times and try to understand the meaning based on the sentence, and will sometimes write it down to research it later. I enjoy learning new words.
