WOKJ MP Awards 2009 - Categories Clarifications Thread
You know what to do.
My questions:
Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) - Lead or Supporting (personally I'd say supporting) Marion Cotillard (Nine) - Lead or Supporting (also Supporting, I'd say)

I'd say lead for Laurent, supporting for Kruger (if anyone decides to nominate her).
Also screenplays like In the Loop, Bright Star, District 9 - original or adapted?

No clue about In the Loop but Bright Star is adapted if you ask me. It is directly based on Keats' letters. District 9 is adapted.

I'm guessing In the Loop should stay adapted, since it's based off The Thick of It. Just checking.

I'd consider Laurent supporting, the only exception is if we also reclassify Christoph Waltz as lead (Cannes Film Festival).
Sam Worthington is considered lead in Terminator Salvation?
Zoe Saldana should be actress, not supporting actress in Avatar right?
And is Avatar eligible for Best Animated Feature?

The Nine actresses should be all supporting.
In the Loop is adapted.

Final verdict on Laurent?
I say supporting, though it's borderline.

Okay, final Basterds clarification then:
Waltz, Pitt and Laurent are ALL supporting.

It may draw inspiration and events from historical evidence, including Keats' poetry & letters, but it's still an original screenplay... It's not based on any specific published biography or documentary. If it were Oscar nominated, it would be for Best Original Screenplay. And: http://www.awardsdaily.com/FYC/2009/ima ... htstar.jpg

Re: WOKJ MP Awards 2009 - Categories Clarifications Thread
My questions, though I feel fairly confident in most cases and, when possible, am using studio-released FYC ads as a source:
BROTHERS Lead: Tobey Maguire Supporting: Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman
ME AND ORSON WELLES Lead: Zac Efron Supporting: Claire Danes, Zoe Kazan, Christian McKay
THE ROAD Supporting: Kodi Smit-McPhee (as Viggo's son)

Ah, did they? Lame. But all right. Sets a bad precedent, though. Why were Milk and The Aviator nominated for Best Original Screenplay? They were clearly adapted from Harvey Milk and Howard Hughes' lives!

Well, yes, but those were Keats' written letters.
