 Sensative Boss/worker Question need help....
I have an employee who dresses like she is going to a bar to get picked up. Everyday, and I mean every day, she wears hip hugger jeans and low cut blouses. When she sits down, the crack in her butt is showing. She wears waist tops and when she sits down, the blouse is way up on her back, so she is bare from the crack in her butt to the middle of her back. She is very heavy. I would guess she weighs in the high 200’s, if not low 300’s. We are a Emergency Response Center have lots of guys in our office. They love it, I’m sure. The gossip in the office is very tiring.
My question is this. How does one approach an employee with this type of issue? We have a professional casual dress policy. Jeans are appropriate if they are not old and raggy. How do you address the hip huggers, waist blouses and the low cut blouses? Every top she wears is very low cut.

I was going to ask if she was hot.
Then I read how much she weighed.
Whenever I've had issues with the way employees dress, I used the direct approach. Take them aside, and spell out the policy. Never, never, have the discussion in public.

If she didnt weigh 300lbs, would you still have a problem?
If you're the boss, you should be able to tell it to her straight.

Maybe she doesn't realise just how uncomfortable people are being subjected to her ass. If I were you, I'd take a picture of her sat down (with crack on full display of course), then post hundreds of pictures of it all over the office with along with a witty comment like, say "pull up your pants, the sight of your hideous bottom has made me impotent".

Best thing to do is to befriend her, then joke with her about it; "gosh, your ass crack is showing abit" "dressed for another night on the pull have you?"....etc etc you get the idea..
It'll soon sink in that people are noticing it.

That will effectively end the young friendship. I'd say, after that, all bets are off. I recommend running away and hiding.

It is totally inappropriate to wear those kind of clothes in a professional setting. Somebody from the human resources department needs to talk to her and explain the dress code policy.

You're the boss. Set a dress policy, post it for everyone (not just her) and then enforce it on everyone.

I've done that, however it has not worked like I thought it would. I personally have no problem just telling her it's not appropriate, but everyone is sue happy these days and I know a lawyer would jump all over it if I didn't handle it by the letter of the law.

It's not as bad as you might think. Somehow the insurance lobby and big business has convinced everyone that frivolous lawsuits are taking over the world, and it's just not true. Stupid lawsuits get thrown out of court all the time. Just because someone files something doesn't mean they win or even that they get past a motion to dismiss.
Make sure the policy is very clear. Tell her why she is violating it, and then write it up so you hav documentation. Never make a scene, and always try to have someone else there as a witness.

Fresh. Listen to Mike on this one. Most of the other suggestions are bound to get you sued though !! I think the direct approach of setting a policy is fine. If she does not adhere by it at a later date after you've posted such a policy, you can pretty much say what you need to her without having to even mention to her that her crack shows.

I had similar problem with a girl who actually had a nice body. I ran a camp for children and she showed up naked. So we clearly wrote out the dress code policy (like it was bloody high school), and made a rule that all employees had to wear official camp t-shirts every single day. The policy went into effect on aa specific date and the problem was solved.
If she doesn't get the hint, then sit her down one on one (if you are worried about sexual harassment complaints, you might sit her down with all the managerial team) and explain to her that she is violating the dress code.
Reminding the masses can get the few to clean up their act,. and it shows that you are enforcing the rule on everyone, hot or ugly, fat or thin, male or female.
