Post Help with Firefox
Guys, see if you can help me with this:

Firefox popped up an important update, which I downloaded immediately. It restarted, but I can't connect to the net using Firefox (I'm using explorer).

Anyone know what's going on?

First, try it in safe mode. I don't know what that will do, but try anyway.

Second, uninstall and reinstall.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled it, and it still doesn't work.

How do I do it in safe mode?

Try something of this, box: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website

Quote:
If you can't get any website to load immediately after updating your browser, it is almost certainly your firewall or other security software blocking the connection.

I followed that link. Thanks for it Nebs. I think it might have to do with stupid Norton. I uninstalled them, but it seems their firewall is still working?

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of a firewall once Norton has already been uninstalled?

I had to do a system restore to get my connection at all, after trying something to erase all of Norton.

:-(

When Firefox installs updates, your anti-virus program/firewall usually has to set new rules for allowing it to connect to the internet. So it's probably something with Norton. Try disabling it (Norton) and try Firefox again.

But I've deleted Norton. Officially, it's gone.

Do you know where on Vista I can go to disable Norton firewall?

Ah, Vista. There's your problem.

First step: get a new computer that doesn't have Vista. :P

I haven't had any problems with Vista thus far; it's worked well for me.

Post Re: Help with Firefox
Speaking of help with Firefox, I've been having this slight problem with my work computer. It's nothing serious, just a minor annoyance. Whenever I start Firefox, it doesn't come up, and I have to ctrl-alt-del and end the firefox.exe process. Then I'll try again and it will start. I've tried ctrl-alt-del'ing first, but there's no firefox.exe process to end. It's just weird and I don't know what's wrong with it.

I hate Windows.

juju, see it there are profile.lock files in your profile. And if so, delete them, and see if the problem will still be there.

It's more because I have no clue how to deal with Vista, not having it myself. :nope:

SUCCESS!

Ok, so basically I deleted ALL Norton crap using a program from Symantec's site. It was, indeed, the firewall. DAMN YOU NORTON.

Gosh, I'm so happy to have Firefox back :tears: :D :tears:

Thanks to everyone for their help. I really appreciate it!
