Post The Chronicles of Munky: SAT
Here I sit, at the computer, listening to music, and looking at... nothing. The night before I have to take my SAT, the most dreadful of all tests. I have never studied for any test in my life and have always passed with flying colors... except 1 test in which I studied for and got a C on. With high hopes I will go in tomorrow. Then again, my best friend who took the test a couple of months ago and is just as intelligent as me, got only a 1070 on his SAT. I wouldn't be taking the SAT if my dad didn't make me, but he said it would just cement my acceptance into college even more. And I had to do it now as there will be a new SAT starting next March with an added section which will bring the perfect score maximum up to 2400.

Do you have any comments on the SAT? Did you take it? How'd you do if you did? Have you heard about the new SAT?

ha! most dreadful of all tests ? the SAT is a fucking joke... (at least compared with the shit i have to deal with now)

i got a 1310 the first time i took it (720 math/590 verbal) and didn't bother doing it again since it was above the basic req at my uni.

I also took the ACT, got a 28. Higher than the top 20% of my graduating class. Yeah, I whooped them all up... and I am right at 20%

Yeah, the GRE blew. I had to do "math" for the first time in 6 1/2 years and I wasn't even allowed to use a calculator (had to do it all on scrap paper).

SAT is easy...I didn't study one bit. I;m sure you'll do fine. You should take it, your dad is right. At this point few schools will look at you if you don't have it. I wouldn't lose sleep, if you don't do that well, study and re-take it asap before the switchover.

I don't remeber but I think I got something like 1360-70 on mine. Did way better on the math part (somewhere in the mid 700's) than the verbal part...once again proving that I'm good at what I can't stand and suck at what I wish to do.

I also took the ACT (got a 26). The SAT is not really used at all in our area. I imagine they're about the same thing though.

My only recommendation is to get plenty of sleep and eat well. You don't want to be tired and hungry while you're trying to take the damn thing.

I'm probably not going to take the SAT this year (I thought it was in May?), but I did take the PSAT (because I'm only in 10th grade :P ). I STILL haven't gotten my results back but on practice ones I got 193 and 203 which translates to about 1300 on the SAT I think (I got around 70-something for the math and in the 50s-60s for the reading and I think it's supposed to be 10 times that).

I got 1470 (800/670) on SAT, 32 on ACT, and 2240 (800/800/640) on GRE. I don't really think you need to study a lot for any of them, except for vocab on GRE, which I spent a month studying. Math is very easy.

I took mine while I had the Flu, got a 1230 or a 1250, something in that range. I forget at this point since I am in grad school and now the GRE scores count. I was in the lower 600's on both Verbal and math...which was sufficent to get a scholarship to my college of choice so I did not retake them.

Also I had no money to retake them and resend the scores, and my parents were not the type to contribute any money at all to helping my apply to or pay for college.

Haha.

The SAT sucks for one reason. Its on a freakin Saturday. Needless to say Friday night I went out and got piss drunk, partied till 6am, and got woken up at 7:30 by my friends mom (where I slept over) saying my mom was outside.

I was still real drunk, managed a 1270, I think I got lucky, cause I was really just filling in bubbles, trying to get done in time.

So that fact that every college uses it to help determine admission is well meaningless. They fact that many schloarships use it to detemrine winners, and some have minimum score requirements.

Whether it is a stupid test or not is irrevalent as long as the American College system continues to use it.

But thanks for the enlightening, its stupid I am glad I don;t have to take it comment.

Congrats! Chippy. Thats a good score! Most of the people I know from highschool got around that and they were top of the class or took it several times, etc. Thats a strong score I'm pretty sure!

You going to need to take them Boxie? I took them a year and a half ago, so if you need advice, feel free to ask of course.
