Post D'uh. Illegal Nanny is Mysterious.
 I'm sorry, once in awhile its my duty as a news reading citizen to point out some of the more exceptionally idiotic headlines. Case in point:

Mystery Woman in Kerik Case: Nanny

well no shit. Isn't that one of the points of being an "illegal" immigrant? You know, not having documents, bank accounts, a name that Americans can remember because it hasn't been anglosized.

Oh my goodness, aspetate per un minuto...it gets better.

Quote:
One secret after another has tumbled out since the collapse of Bernard B. Kerik's nomination as homeland security secretary - an undisclosed marriage, clandestine love affairs, unsavory business ties and unreported gifts...

...Yet six days after Mr. Kerik withdrew his nomination, citing "questions about the immigration status of a person who had been in my employ," the figure central to the scandal - the nanny - remains a complete mystery.

The White House has been unwilling to discuss any specifics of the nanny herself, including whether anyone in the administration had asked Mr. Kerik for details about her identity, status or nationality...

Among the unanswered questions are where she came from, and even whether she was actually working in the country illegally when Mr. Kerik said she served as a housekeeper and nanny for his two small daughters.

Gee...that might have to do with the fact that she didn't have legal documentation. Isn't this stating the overly-obvious? Yes...yes it is.

Quote:

None of this means that the mysterious nanny could not emerge from the shadows tomorrow to speak on television talk shows. At least one of Mr. Kerik's neighbors in New Jersey was able to describe the woman yesterday.

Sure she can't emerge...she'll get deported.
I wonder what his neighbor said? Maybe that she was short, had dark her, and fit some other generic description of how wealthy people view their household assistants. Hehehe.

Dumb article. Waste of front page space.

Do you read Best of the Web column on OpinionJournal.com? Sure, it's right-wing, but every day James Taranto does his civic duty of pointing out dumb headlines of the day.

You have to read between the lines of what they are trying to say:

- Kerik was rumored to have mob ties. Are they implying she "disappeared"?
- Kerik was up for Homeland chief job, and you'd expect the guy in that job to be meticulous about issues of legality especially regarding immigration.

I agree it was a redundant article but I get the feeling there were things the writer wanted to say but couldn't.

But it could have just been bad editing. Sometimes badly written news articles are a result of editors cutting out parts and the parts left over don't fit together well.

Another thing common in the news business is an editor reading the article and then moving the juiciest bits to the first paragraph. So it gets repeated later but its not the writer's fault.

I did it with the "Antennas on Med Bottles" and i'm doing it again. I'm going to try to do it whenever I find such articles that hit me over the head for their unanticipated humor.

@Archie...I don't doubt it. it may not have even been editing. It may have been the fact that we're just kicking off *four more years* and even the papers aren't going to start trampling toes and butting heads when the new inauguration hasn't even happened. regardless of whose mistake it was, the article was hilarious. I can sum it up in 5 lines.

"Us rich folk don't concern ourselves much with "the help." What was her name again honey? I dunno, check her records. Oh wait, she doesn't have any records? Meh, just ask her. Oh wait, she can't admit she doesn't have documentation or she'll get deported? Was she even a woman? I don't remember...damn, that puts us in a bind now that I'm running for public office doesn't it."

Its the fact they they were called "antennas." we've been using them under barcodes in video rental places for years, that what sets of the alarm if you try and steel one (unless you have alot of metal near it...but you didn't hear that from me). we didn't call them antennas, we just called them surveillance strips, or any amount of other things. Antenna implies something that actually projects off the object. It was silly, but desides... I liked my little alien viagra bottle. i thought it was adorable.

Okay...back to illegal mysterious nanny.

thats cause they are antennas ... antennas in no way imply they stick out .. most antennas on almost all equipment are embedded deep inside ...
