Thieves have struck at several local Burger King restaurants in the past several days, stealing several inflatable balloons of the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.
"There have been about 10 stolen at this point," said Burger King's regional Vice President Maureen Miller. "(It started) about a week and a half ago, and the most recent one was last night."
The roof is bare at the Burger King location on Airline Drive in Metairie. The SpongeBob at the Clearview location is still safe -- at least for now.
Burger King said the thefts are happening nationwide
So what does someone do with a 20-foot SpongeBob? Sell it on eBay, of course.
A representative with Burger King's corporate office said the SpongeBob promotion is the largest-ever for the fast-food chain.
