Who cares? Let them sing it. Doesn't hurt me in the slightest.

Theres a point in every Bush speech where you shut off and ignore him completely.
It's hard to pinpoint it, but usually its after the first three words.
In this instance
"One of the great things about America is that we've been able to take people from all walks of life bound as one nation under God...."
Right.
"I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."
Super.
Im waiting for him to say they should all dye their hair blonde and find blue contacts and bleach their skin on the way to the local Church STAT.

The funny thing is that most English speaking Americans don't even know the lyrics to the national anthem.

Basically all conservative thinking boils down to this:
"Everyone should be just like me, and everyone should think just like me, and I will use the laws to make everyone in America all alike."

You saw that in Bush's statement??

Certainly in his actions.
"We believe that abortion is wrong, therefore everyone should think like us and we will make it illegal."
"We believe people should all be straight, and therefore we will make it illegal for gays to get married."
"We believe that evolution is wrong, therefore we will write laws to prohibit you from teaching it."
Shall I go on? I have plenty more. Basically, the conservative view (on morality issues at least) is quite consistent: "diversity is wrong, everyone should think alike, and we will do everything in our power to make people who do not agree with us have no say in the matter."
Don't you agree?

Certainly not on this issue. Did Bush propose a law banning the Spanish version of the U.S. anthem? If so, i must've missed it.

As long as "me" means a middle-class-to-rich white Christian, then yes. They're inexplicable rage against diversity and multi-culturalism are predicated on white Christians being in charge. They are quick, however, to play the diversity card within a milisecond of any kind of threat to that power, like when crazy "anti-Christian" parents don't want conservatives preaching to their kids in school.
Witness, for example, their attack on Mexican flag waving in America with their defense of Confederate flag waving in America. They portray the Mexican flag as an emblem of dividing America, while defending a flag that actually represents division of America. They defend the Confederate flag as an emblem of "heritage" while attacking the Mexican flag for exactly the same reason.

I agree somewhat with Krem in that Bush is relatively moderate on this issue.
What I find interesting is that while Bush's base has let him get away with trashing the conservative legacy by spending like a drunken sailor at port, running up trillions in debt, and invading countries and overthrowing governments simply for looking at us cock-eyed, it took him saying that illegal immigrants should be treated like human beings for them to actually start criticizing him.

I never mentioned anything about Bush. I was talking about conservative thought in general, which includes the apparent protests here about the anthem being sung in Spanish.

The only person here who has voiced any criticism of the song was neo_wolf (who is Puerto Rican), who said that it was a shitty song. People here voice their opinions about movies all the time. Are songs off limits all of a sudden?

Krem, Groucho. You need to stop this debate before it starts. It's retarded already and theres no way it's going to get any better.
Groucho's mindframe has reason and he is certainly making a statement that is, overall, representitve of what the Bush administration is under the thick layer of really not well spun spin. I saw exactly what Groucho did in that statement. I don't see why it needed further justification because it's pretty obvious.

Stop putting words in my mouth. People can give their opinions on anything they want, and I can give my opinion back. Certainly the same thing applies to movies.

You're angry at some conservatives (yet to be named) who are protesting the song. Which words did I put in your mouth?
