Drunken man hijacked Calgary bus: police

CALGARY - An intoxicated man hijacked a Calgary bus Sunday night and crashed it after picking up some passengers at a stop, police say.

Officers said the man vomited shortly after getting into a small Calgary Transit bus at about 7 p.m. After the bus driver left to request a different vehicle, the passenger allegedly crawled behind the wheel and drove away.

No other passengers were on board at the time, but the man stopped to pick up some passengers waiting at a nearby stop.

As the bus pulled away from that stop, it crashed into a parked car, causing $1,000 in damage.

The shaken passengers got off the bus safely at that point. The driver carried on and eventually ditched the bus outside a dingy downtown bar.

Police said the man was apprehended while trying to run away and taken to hospital because of his intoxicated state.
