Its kind of funny that Hogmanay's meaning is so not right even in the online dictionary.

Apparently, I was supposed to "go about singing and asking for gifts" as a child. I'm sorry we must have left that tradition where it began before the BIRTH OF CHRIST. Another interesting definition "a gift, cake, or treat given on New Year's Eve."

Can't say I've ever been given a "hogmany" for ....hogmany.
