Well that is true, but I believe if you are famous, and have the money you should get your diploma, and go to college. Being famous is not an excuse to miss out on your education. Madonna got straight A's all through High School, and went on to a University, it is not impossible you know.

It's personal choice. If a rich person doesn't want to finish their education, why should anyone else care?

If you want a brilliant actress who happens to be brilliant ( ), then don't look for Natalie Portman to fit those shoes, but Jodie Foster.
Jodie Foster graduated Magna Cum Laude from Yale, and that was after John Hinkley Jr. attempted to assassinate Reagen on grounds of seeking her attention!
Oh, and she taught herself French at 14 and got an Oscar nom then.
\:D/
But anyways, all Alba needs to do is look good, and occasionally give a good performance.
As I said, beauty is a gift which few possess. I'd say there are more college students in the US (14m+) than there are people who look like Alba.
And, I'd say that she has, through her beauty, given me more than most bachlors of the arts and science will through their work. Beauty shouldn't be taken for granted, it's exceptional.

Well it is entirely up to her. She doesn't have to, and I don't give a shit if she does or doesn't. She may be hot, but she isn't a very strong actress, just watch Honey.

Disagree BIG-TIME with those complaining about her.

Some comments
- First High School should be the place where you learn the stuff that you guys are talking about her missing. She probably was having movie school learning classrooms.
- College - A place of higher learning - is where you take your interests and go to a higher degree with them. It isn't for learning remedial work.
- And to the ones mentioned - Olsens above and others - some have had / made their careers already. Jessica Alba is really in the start of her career so it would be crazy for her to do the college route which would kill her career right in prime time. Those who do the college route take time off from movies to go to college.
- Hell if she wanted to do college - it could be in 10 years.
- And after seeing lots of actors on late night talk shows - most probably could use a high school refresher course or college. And alot are horrible without a script in front of them.

Why? Why get a diploma? For the sake of having one? Why go to university. I think education is the most important thing in the world but education is not always received through going to educational institutions. It's through experience, work shops, seminars, hands on work, reading, watching and most importantly, listening.
Thoguh I encourage you all here to go to school and college. It is important only because they're important for a foundation and it's not usual to get this foundation without attending them.

Also Baba said one thing that reminded me of this - which I wanted to write above but forgot.
College may get you book intelligence. But also how much do you remember from school. As I said above, school is good for a foundation - which you should get in a normal high school.
But in addition to book smarts/intelligence - you always want common sense and real world experience which you usually don't get in college.
Right now she has a chance to learn/see stuff that regular college people never see. And college will always be there if and when the time is right.

I wasn't going to respond to this thread anymore because unfortunately, I went all towards theoretical and everyone was taking it as a personal diss on Alba. But I'll try to be clear, say one more thing.
Alba's a fine actress. I only have seen her in Sin City, but she wasn't worse than anyone else there. I also think she good looking, but only in the later SIn City picks. She's filled up a bit, those pics of her when she's younger are too skinny for my taste. She may be a very nice person, I've never met her. She may have a heart of gold and give all her money to great projects. I have no idea.
I am surprised at how many people have cut down on upper education here. If you were a parent, today, in 2005, and your kid came to you saying they didn't even want to start college, don't tell me you wouldn't freak a bit. On a purely technical level, it has value in the market place. A high school diploma does not. Every middle management job I've had I was given because I had a b.a. and was hired from the outside while people with high school diplomas who had worked there for years got passed over.
I do not believe in "natural" intelligence. Ever heard the saying success in 5% inspiration and 95% perspiration? That's how intelligence is too. You may have it, but if you don't work hard, you'll lose it. There are no naturally intelligent people, and if they are, then they cultivate what they have. Sure, some people have found ways to put that 95% perspiration in through other means. As bABA said work shops, seminars, reading alot, discussing with others, these are all methods. Just like someone may go to college and perspire much less than 95%, and they're not building themselves up well either.
I love the self-made man, but (s)he is unique and the exception that proves the norm. For everyone you show me who you find successful and intelligent, I'll show you ten that never persued education (though had the opportunity) and aren't successful and intelligent. Doesn't matter if they had potential at one point, if I had the potential to run in the Olympics, but sat around eating candy bars, I'm not a good runnner, period. Intelligence takes effort, just like being a good runnner, just like being good at anything.
I hate to mention a movie, but all of you have seen Hoop Dreams and how intensely both families tried to push their kids through higher learning. People work extra jobs and invest all their extra mental and physical energy in helping family members get to university because everyone knows there is in fact some stock behind doing that. If Alba doesn't want to go to college, even when she's 30, no skin off my back, but I can't believe we're actually placing her on a pedestal for that reason and not despite it (for her other characteristics). I do and always will advocate university education for everyone, I'd love if it was more accessible and one of my biggest political issues has always been educational opportunity programmes for communities that are entrenched or disillusioned. I'm not going to tell you or any of my future kids or anyone else that a high school diploma is enough.
If someone goes to school and drops out because of other endevours, it still means they have found an alternative route to push themselves, and it also means they gave university a try. I can't really condemn them, because they at least put in the effort. If someone can't afford university and has to work until they are 30 before they get there, I can't fault that in them either because they are pushing themselves. BUt I'm not going to defend the intelligent decisions of someone that doesn't advocate college learning, and it's not a role model I would advocate to my children, just like a wouldn't encourage a sports role model that placed no emphasis on education and only physicality.
I can't believe how many people here are saying not going to college (if you have the fiscal ability and no outstanding personal obligations that cause you to defer for a short time) is fine. I bet you wouldn't actually say that to your own kids, or at least I owuldn't, and I wouldn't say it to my friends or aquaintences or parade it around as a good thing in the virtual world either. Exceptions that prove the norm are still proving the norm. WHy do you think the first thing developing countries do is try to work on literacy rates and schooling?

not really .. i would have no issue with my kids not going to university if they were able to use their current skills for something good and monetarily stable ... but continue to learn and teach themselves things in other ways ... I've learnt more in my 2 years out of college than i did in my 3 years of university and 2 years of A - Levels. Again .. prove you can do without them and its fine by me ...

Christ. She's hot. Leave it alone! Well it is entirely up to her. She doesn't have to, and I don't give a shit if she does or doesn't. She may be hot, but she isn't a very strong actress, just watch Honey.
I have seen Honey.
And, she wasn't that bad. If you're expecting, like, Nicole Kidman, then maybe she sucks.

Honey while being a standard and predictable movie was still rather enjoyable. Alba has a certain charm that helped me enjoy the movie, and elevate above its pedestrian treatment.
She's no Meryl Streep, but Alba's alot fucking better then Tara Reid.

Exactly. I don't see how anyone can expect a great performance out of a young actress like Alba.
She's a decent actress. I thought she was great in Sin City.

She was outshined by the younger nancy and Willis and Stahl as well. But then again I also think in that storyline Alba was given the weakest lines, so in thinking baout during the post I would say she did well in the film.
Alba is not a great actress, but she isn't terrible either, she's compotent with a great smile and charm that make her likable. I think she could do well in lighter comedies...whether she has dramatic chops has yet to be seen.
I've love to see her in a comedy...I think she could have a career like Drew Barrymore.

Its funny how Jessica Alba, being the film "buffs" wet dream this year with all of her projects; has totally thrown the movie going audience behind her this year to lick her feet and call her a goddess, Just as Kate Winslet did last year; and Scarlett Johansson the year before. Im sure a young LeeLee Sobeiski had her turn too.
I personally feel Alba lacks distinctiveness and genuine charm that is required for a long hollywood career; one things for sure - guys like her shitloads more than girls - and at the end of the day, guess who holds the phone for making people stars in Hollywood?
Take Julia Roberts - guys don't really love her all that much; lord knows the poor womans had a few similarities to her looks drawn [i love her]. Shes Hollywoods biggest name. Why? Women is why. Which is why making a romantic comedy is essential into A list entry and subsequent longetivity.
