It was ok. She did not deserve to win over Meryl Streep or Kate Winslet. Period.

Then you need to kindly follow my second set of instructions. The one with the head out of the ass. :bang:

No, I watched it and was really looking forward to it.

Sure, Streep gave a great impersonation but that took infinitely less talent than Streep or Winslet who had to create their characters.

Sorry. But you are wrong. Very wrong.

Talk about pretentious and condescending....

Hey now...

my mother told me to keep nasty comments to myself. for once, i'll respect her wishes.

Can all those lamenting the victory of Helen Mirren please watch The Queen. There's a reason she won every award in the world. Thank You.

And, in the event that you are complaining and have seen The Queen, then please watch it again, this time with your head out of your ass.

I'm nowhere near pretentious and I certainly don't share yoshue's taste in movies, but he's absolutely right. Mirren was by far the best leading female performance of 2006. It was much more than just an impersonation.

While I think Helen Mirren was great and that her performance was much more than just an impersonation, I don't think she was the best of the year. I thought both Kate Winslet, and Meryl Streep especially, were better.

Streep, in my opinion, did a phenomenal job and underplayed a performance in such a way that I don't think any other actress could have done. The mannerisms, speech and actions she gave Miranda were terrific and perfected throughout. She was the bitchy boss, and yet always maintained a sense of flair and grace that was exemplary of being the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine. Such attention to detail; to every syllable uttered in every word in every one of her lines, to every little movement she made and every expression on her face. Her performance was what acting is all about. It was just so articulate and so intricate. Simply put, it was a traditionally showy role that she nailed beyond anything I had expected.

She was the unpredictability in the usually totally predictable comedy.

As I see it, if the Oscars were to have ever awarded a performance in a comedy film, that was the one to award.

Peace,
Mike.
