@lovemerox, matatonio & ALL OTHERS
The votes are PMed to the vote counters once the voting has started. It has NOT started yet, though. Please, guys, read the 4th post on the first page of this thread, everything is explained in there. Please, read it carefully. Thank you. I would really like to read your input and thoughts
As for the hosts of the ceremony...we will probably have two. One of them is already determined, however, I am undecided on the second....let me surprise you

What I need now is suggestions how we could change the categories. What do you want added, what do you think should go. Personally I strongly support the categories "Biggest TV Buff", "Biggest Comic Book Buff", "Biggest Music Buff", "Biggest Video Game Buff" and "Biggest Oscar Buff" to go,
I agree. Completely.
As for adding or modifying the awards, I thought of adding one of these: "Most Mysterious Poster" or "Best Foreign Poster" (anyone outside of the USA) as well as modifying "Best Debator" to "Best Political Debator".
Nah! Adding more is gonna be a headache .. lets start small.
2 hosts is cool but i think everyone wants to participate so maybe more people can present awards.

The thing is that the show has to be great as it is the first one and you usually should start with a high note, so the next awards will attract even more people. Many presenters IS a problem. It has been last time as well. Some people don't have consistant schedules, things might happen etc. I think having a small numbers of hosts is much more organized. Many presenters is not very organized. One thing that of course will not happen is that the Best Poster category will be presented by one of the people who have been nominated in this category, so I will have one or two special presenters (as for who it will be, that can be worked out later). Overall (aside from one or two exceptions), though, I want to leave the hosting of a show to two people. These people will make sure that they have all speeches and that they can (almost) guarantee their presence at the awards.
As for more categories...I'll merely wait for the reactions of posters here. I won't decide about adding new categories by myself. However, I do think that adding at least one category each time (or replacing one with another one) is what makes the awards interesting as well.
But as I said, I am waiting for input.

Looking quickly at the initial posts of the rules, I have some comments. I will review the categories more later for added comments.
- As for adding or modifying the awards, I thought of adding one of these: "Most Mysterious Poster" or "Best Foreign Poster" (anyone outside of the USA) as well as modifying "Best Debator" to "Best Political Debator".
I am wondering why the need for this category. Are foreign posters disadvantaged. Don't they see the same movies. I think they can just have the regular poster without these sub-categories. ( Or as this was suggested by Dr. Lecter, Is he putting this in cause he thinks this will be an easy win. As Lecter is the #3 poster on the board with 1544 and his location as everyone knows is Germany.
I just don't think this category is needed but Lecter can make a case for it.
- Vote Counters:
I have already appointed vote counters for both rounds of the awards. Here they are:
Nomination Round - SamweisGamdschie & BigMoviePimp
Winners Round - Jon Lyrik & Dr. Lecter
Don't worry, I'll remind you before the voting starts
Can we just call these voters, the Friends of Lecter. Can't people volenteer for this. Look at who he picked. Anyway, I think there are alot of other choices.
Lecter - as host he probably shouldn't be a counter - Independence question.
Jon L - the # 50 poster with 131 posts
Pimp - the # 56 poster with 99 posts
And does he even come here ( but I heard he is a friend of Lecter)
Samweis - the # 114 poster with 13 WHOLE POSTS. 13 give me a break.
Note, I just wanted to point the above out so everyone knows this. I think the voters should be people on the board in the top 20 only. Give back to the people who support the boards.

Meh. If it's the 11 or 12, I can't make it. I'm going to Memphis that weekend. That trip has prevented me form doing so many things already. This, the ACT, it's the weekend of my birthday Ocean's effin Twelve). Meh.
I'd still like to help in any way possible. If that means writing a speech, cool.

Lecter, please don't answer this statement. I'll do it.
Goldie, there are many people not from the U.S. on this board. Matatonio, Samweis, the Candians, well, pretty much 50%. I spoke with Matatonio once about hosting a challenge question round for bABA and I's ultimate challenge, and he said he would love to except that he is a bit worried about his abilities, etc. Also, their access to U.S. movies and the way in which they experience them is different than us, take this from someone that has lived for extended periods of time on two Countries, Italy and Israel, outside of the U.S. I think it is a bit premature, IMO, a category for the first awards, because we do nat have that many members here at *World* yet, but I think its a great idea for later awards. Why? Because we are trying to do our best to include everyone, and more categories allows for more potential nominees to be included, and therefor more people get recognized for their contributions to this forum.
Also, the "friends of Lecter" bit is a bit of a stretch don't you think? This is a goddamn chat forum...he's not going to tamper with votes like if it was the 2000 election or something. Its not that important. Its just for fun. In light of which I think all comments addressing it should be similar in tone and desire. That is just me, however. I'm not going to edit or lock anyone who thinks otherwise. Also, its good that it is friends, ask bABA and TonyMontana, these things are much more difficult than you expect, and a co-hesive frinedly unit is necessary. It takes many hours, and the two hosts should get along quite well so that they can last a couple of hours entertaining. bABA and I were friends when we started the Ultimate Challenge, that the way it goes. Again, its just a chat forum, we are here to have fun.
I am only going to say this one more time. I am getting a bit impatient with these snips and regardless of what other MODs think am going to go ahead and state this outright. The only scathing tongue around here is going to be my own and I'll have it no other way. :? In the future it is fine if you think a category is not strong enough to be included, than express your hesitations about that category...not people's intentions for including it. This is what I am about to do as well.
-Dolce
As for the categories. I looked them over and this is what I would suggest in light of everything I've heard so far.
Biggest Moviebuff
Best Box Office Predictor
Best Thread Creator
Best Writer Of Posts
*Best Political Debator
Best Signature
Best Avatar
Best Screen name
*Most Mysterious Poster
Funniest Poster
Nicest Poster
Most Credible Poster
Smartest Poster
Most Entertaining Poster
*Best Newcomer (Should we reserve this for non-BOM members?)
Best Overall Poster
Best Moderator
"Desert Island"-Award
(pick 3 males and 3 females you'd like to be on a desert island with)
@Lecter, I liked your suggestions for political debator vs. regular debator, because otherwise it like comparing movie and social debators in the same category, which is tricky. Also, instead of *weirdest* which could come off as kind of mean, I switched it up for your *Most Mysterious* suggestion, which has a greater sense of positiveness, IMO.
These topics, granted, are a bit skewed by the fact I practically never enter the tv, dvd, music, video game, etc forums. So, if there has been enough acticity in those forums to warrant the categories (the MODs in those ofrums should know) than please take those suggestions into consideration above mine.
Di nuovo,
-Dolce

I agree with Goldie about the category thing but only half with the appointment of the vote counters.
Goldie, vote counting isnt easy i did them all myself last time and trust me, it was hours of work. the fact that you can only send 3 nominations should make it better. I know Jon' s done it before so I have faith in him .. or has he!?
Lecter, Goldie does bring one good point though .. I'll take your word for it on this one ... have all 3 guys commited to counting the votes?? If you say yes, thats all that matters ...

The only reason for me not to reply to Goldie's post is because Dolce asked me not to and I do have enough respect for her not to jump on Goldie's comments.
@Arsi
As for the nominations suggestions, you forget that I wrote this post a while ago, when we all were still at BOM, therefore the Foreign Poster suggestion as there we did have more of a choice than over here at the moment. Furthermore, I said I am not going to post new categories unless many people agree on them.
As for the vote counters, they all DID confirm it and as I am talking to one of them right now, I'll ask him to confirm it right away. I'll PM the other two to come in and confirm later. Actually, you should be more pleased with not too popular people counting as they are probably not going to get nominated and therefore the nominated/winning folks won't learn anything about their possible luck by counting. I put myself into one of the rounds because I have done this 3 times so far (as far as I remember), doing both rounds. This time, however, school won't let me do it, but I decided to at least do one round. If school will be too hard on me by the time the second round starts, I will find a replacement for myself.
Oh and obviously the people who are counting are my friends, how else should I have asked them to count a while ago while chatting with them? I usually don't chat with people who are not friends of mine, hehe.
Anyway, expect the confirmations by the counters soon.

And, by the way Arsi is completely right, most people really do not realize how much work the counting of votes is. The very first time, I did it, I thought I'd be done with it in 1 hour.
Five hours later I was still recounting, hehe.

Thank you so so so much Lecter. Also, I will take you on in Donnie Darko if Algren can't get through to do Amores Perros with you. I have way to much trouble with internet explorer as well. Does he have netscape navigator? I seem to have a much easier time with that.
As for the awards, did you get my suggestions about dropping "weirdest poster"? I don't know. Just tossing around ideas. I will help any way possible, but I prefer not to host. I'll count if need be, though I love a good surprise, which is why I haven't offered so far. I'll gladly do it for round 1 if need be.
Goldie, is there a film in the foreign/indie siskel ebert section that you would be interested in doing? If so, drop a note.
Hey everyone...special new events going on the most enigmatic forum here at *World*! And yes, I'm blatantly promoting it. :wink:

I think all of you have had some great ideas. Especially Dolce, Lecter and Baba.
Perhaps an award for best contributor to the forums?

@Dolce
I did see your suggestions and I like them all, especially replacing the Best Debator with Best Political Debator, as the Best Movie Debator is basically the Biggest Movie Buff.
I have saved your suggestions in my WORD (as I will do with all suggestions) and I am waiting for more to come.
As for the Donnie Darko and/or Amores Perros reviews/commentaries...just let me know when.

disagree.
best movie buff does not imply you always debate about movies. It can have a lot to do with just your knowledge, your taste, the quantity you watch, and how much you participate in them.
plus naming it political debator means you've completely eliminated all other types of debates here. Other offtopic debates, music, tv and videogame debates here as well.. which make up a good chunk.

Good point. However, I think it's almost a crime combinging the movie discussions and the poiitical/non-movie debates in one, as these are two different sides of a stick, definitely. But as I said, we shall wait and see, there is still time.
@lovemerox
We all know this category is almost no-brainer, hehe. It's like making the Biggest Hulk Fan category...we all know who'd win. :wink:
However, I will let others decide, as usually.

i think killing debating all together and naming it political debator would be a crime .. I'm even okay with breaking the category in 2 in light of that.

I thought our goal was to cut down the numbers of the categories
@lovemerox
I meant biggest online-flirt. As for Biggest Contributor, I will leave it open as well until the final decision. However I think it is the same as Best Poster Overall, actually.
@Mark
Some neat suggestions there, thanks for the input! Best Male and Female Poster is basically defined in that Desert Island Award...well, kind of.
