I was pulling for The Cabin in the Woods, but of course it never stood a chance against Tarantino.

I really REALLY liked Django, but I also believe that it is one of Tarantino's weakest screenplays.

Best adapted screenplay

The road from a novel or short story, a comic, a play, a television series, etc. to the silver screen is often a perilous one for the writer. (Poor Donald Kaufman did not survive it.) A writer can, say, fail to capture the depth or the magic of the source, leaving fans disillusioned and the uninitiated confused or uninspired. It is important then to recognize and honor the art of adaptation as distinct from and no less worthy than the crafting of an original screenplay.

In Life of Pi, naysayers claiming the bestselling novel would prove unfit for cinematic adaptation due to its unusual storyline and focus on its protagonist's interior life and spirituality are proved so very wrong as the film's screenplay explores the title orphan's character arc and the novel's rich contemplation of faith and nature without once sacrificing or undermining its more simple pop pleasures as an epic, yet intimate saga of survival.

Django Dominance, impressive. ZDT became an afterthought pretty quick.

Agreed. DU is not really Tarantino's strongest. Moonrise should have won this one IMO.

After winning the very first award tonight this is the second award for Silver Linings Playbook.

I voted for Perks for political reasons.

My personal choice would be Life of Pi. A dynamite adaptation of a tough novel.

Frankly, considering all the (undeserved) negativity Argo gets here at WOKJ, I was stunned that it even was nominated for BP/BD/Screenplay.
