MySpace is sold for $35m; that's incredibly cheap and also indicative of how far it has fallen.

Wow....that's really low. It's still ranked 86th in global traffic. I guess they finally resigned to the fact that they will never compete will facebook.

MySpace is dead, waste of $35m IMO.

Now, let's talk Google+ ...

Being able to define different circles and sharing different items with each is a great granularity addition and something Facebook should have done long time ago.

I remember Facebook having something similar a long time ago. I do remember that before when somebody added you you could choose how you know that person (school, work, neighbor, etc.) which I think was used for sorting people... But I'm not really sure. It's just a vague memory.

They only enabled the invite ability for non-Googlers for a few hours, so you would need to someone at Google to invite now.

The invite is open again. Let me know if you would like to get an invite (a gmail address would be good enough).

Post Re: The Tech thread
After using Google+ more, I feel like it's been modeled on Twitter moreso than Facebook.

Google+ is what I wish Twitter was. Think about it ...

- you can still follow anyone you're interested in without them gaining access to your content
- the silly size restrictions are lifted
- it's very easy to share all types of media
- you can categorize those you follow, view each stream independently
- you can interact and comment on other people's shared content
- you can disable others from re-sharing your content
- you can manage the privacy of who you share with easily

What they need now, is a landing page with trending topics and realtime updates on those topics, then boom, you've taken everything that's great about Twitter and improved it while adding a vastly improved social layer. I don't think Facebook is the target here ... I think it's Twitter ... and it makes sense, Google kicked the tires on acquiring Twitter and has been in love with the service since it launched.

Google+ is too much work. To me at least. It feels even more convoluted than Facebook. It took me 15 minutes to find how to change the profile picture.

It's still in Beta....the way it's taking off I'm sure they invest more time into new features and functionality.

Changing the picture didn't seem hard to me.

Twitter is still superior, IMO. Because I don't want to see everyone's comments all the time on every update.
