Supporting.

This may have been addressed already, but are we going drama or comedy for Garden State?

I'd think consider a Garden State a comedy. Best Film is the all inclusive category, and all the films that are eligible for individual genre are also eligible for Best Film, so you can nominate Garden State for both Best Film and Best Comedy, as some will do for Shawn of the Dead and The Incredibles, for example.

No way. Garden State is not comedy. It has comedic elements, but it is a very emotional and challenging tale. It has to be drama IMO

why is Before Sunset adapted? Just cuz it is by oscar rules, it doesn't have to be here, too, right? The only think unoriginal about it is the characters, really.

Also, why is Portman supporting for Garden State?

As long as there isn't a compelling reason to go against oscar (Jamie Foxx for Collateral), we are sticking with the oscar rules to avoid confusion. People tend to use that as a guideline for their votes, and it's just hard to inform everybody if we do it differently. I'm still receiving votes for Foxx as supporting that I have to PM to make sure they really want to do that.

Garden State is definitely a comedy. A serious comedy, but comedy nonetheless.

I can also see why Before Sunset would be adapted, the characters have been used for more than just the two movies, including Linklater's (and Hawke and Delpy's) other masterpiece, Waking Life.

Is "The Blower's Daughter" allowed for best song? I'm asking because it made BOM's list of nominations.

I'd say yes, as xiayun said earlier, it doesn't necessarily need to be an original song.

Okay, thanks. That adds a lot of other good songs to the mix!

I have a question.

This came up in the other thread where Torri pointed out that Gael Garcia Bernal's votes for best actor was going to be split between Bad Education and Motorcycle Diaries. Since I've seen them both, and consider both of them to be within the top 5 performances of this year, can I list him twice in best actor (once for each)? Sort of like people who think Foxx was a lead actor in Colleteral, if they liked him in Ray as well, would they be able to list him twice in the same category too?

Yes, you can.

:D

I think he, along with the rest of Dogville, is supporting.

Again, don't know if this has been covered, but...

What about voice acting? Are we considering it a 'performance?'

That's a performance. For example, last year, I'd have nominated Ellen DeGeneres for Best Supporting Actress.

Ah, I didn't know that. I probably would've nominated Holly Hunter.
