OK, can I ask why people are so opposed to using animals in anyway shape or form for food?
That also means they would be against lipstick no? Since most lip stick contains some kind of animal fat...and plants? Since their living things...using paper? Since its a tree....sounds hard as hell!

Yep. It isn't easy. But if you feel strongly about it, props to you. I admire you, in fact, if you care that much about an issue (even if its ridiculous) that you'll give up the simple pleasures in life such as jello and meat, props. Then again of course, being vegan IS healthy.

I only have one vegan friend. But, she usually makes things from scratch and I don't feel like calling her atm...but, she gets most of her recipes from other friends...

Yep. Vegans are usually vegans because of really heavy emotional reasons, so they have a lot of drive. Also, not all vegans are vegans because they are simply against using animals for food in any shape or form, but they are against the WAY that animals are treated and the abuse that comes along with animal products that are in the industry, so they choose not to eat anything produced from an animal.

Thank you torrino and Ripper for the websites. I really like the one you supplied Ripper. I think I'll prepare one of the recipies from that site. Thanks again.

PEACE, Mike ;)

No problem, I would have replied sooner, but I had to ask my friend the name of the site, and she hasn;t been online until just now.

You should let us know what recipe you coose and hwo the dinner turns out.

I've been to vegan only meals a few times before, the food was interesting

Ripper, the site is great, actually.

I just did a quick google search, heh.

The Mock Pink Champagne recipe looks good. Seems simple and tasty.

Someone should make a food thread, while we're at it :P

I know a few vegans. They are nmot as bad as people make them out to be. Their very sweet actually :D But something I find VERY hypocritical is the fact they are "so against" the way animals are treatedm yet they wear nike products all the time...

I'm favouring the Apples and Oranges Stuffed Pitas (I want to bring actual food so I look like I have put some effort into it all). It looks to taste nice, and is an easier recipe for me (and I think I can get all of the ingredients except maybe mung bean sprouts, of which I've never heard).

PEACE, Mike ;)

Okay, cool. I guess it wouldn't matter what kind, since it all works for vegans.

Wow....

You're quite the chef, aren't you?

Improvising in terms of the bean sprouts you get instead of buying exactly what's on the paper (or screen)...;)

Ugh. Pita's with Apples and Oranges in them...y'all are corrupting the food I grew up on.

BTW, since we're on the topic of Pita's it kind of reminded me that tons of middle eastern and mediterranean food can be prepared vegan. Hell, everything in Israel is just a different combination of sesame paste and chick peas...everything. Falafel = fried chick peas, hummus = blended chick peas with sesame paste (tchina) olive oil, parseley, and lemon, tchina itself is just watered down sesame paste.

Ever had Jerusalem Salad? Dice up (into small but not too teenie weenie because it'll get too pulpy) some plum tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and then add some tchina and lemon juice, parseley and crushed black pepper. I think you can toss whatever else you want in there too (I sometimes add a little bit of orzo) chill and its a great cold salad on a hot summer day with good shelf life.

BTW...if it ever leaves this thread that I exchanged recepies and know how to cook there are going to be some serious repercussions.

Mung bean sprouts are also known as "Cellophane noodles." They turn clear when you cook them in water. If you can't find them, use rice noodles; they're white but pretty much interchangable with mung bean.

I dated a vegan for a year, and learned how to cook vegan.

I personally don't like meat-eater recipes that have been doctored with tofu or tempeh. They are designed for vegans who don't know (or don't remember) what meat or dairy taste like. It's fine for vegans, but non-vegans will hate it. You're also very limited.

My suggestion is to flip through every cookbook or recipe box you have and find something that's already vegan. Or, if you can find a vegetarian dish that's easy to leave cheese out of, that will work too. Your best bet is Asian recipes. Above all, check the ingredients. Honey, whey, and sodium caseinate are in almost everything. You may have to buy natural turbinado sugar, since a lot of white sugar is bone-char.

If you're in real trouble, look for a natural foods store or co-op. (Whole Foods/Fresh Fields is big in America.) Sometimes they have a prepared foods department with dishes that are specifically vegan. If not, tell them what you told us. One thing I know about vegans and co-ops is that they are the nicest and most non-corporate people ever. They will so happy that you are being considerate of your friend that they might prepare something special for you.

I'm not ignorant or bigoted. I have a reason for my hatred for vegans. Especially PETA which I just can't understand people supporting.

PETA is some militant animal rights organization, it doesn't really represent all vegans. I'm not a big fan myself if the stuff is too synthetic. Its not any better for the envirnment or one's health to eat 100% synthetic vegan morningstar manufactured food, but I do support vegitarians, and like Erendis said with the doctored fake meat, its best to just eat veggies, and if you're going to have a cookie once in awhile, just have a cookie and don't lose too much sleep over the dairy. I tried being vegitarian for awhile mostly because of energy loss and production (100 grams of veggies for 1 gram of meat = lots of lost grams of food that could then be shared among so many more) but I just didn't get all that into the cuisine lines of vegetarian burgers, etc, when I saw what went into them. Same amount of waste and waste production for me, so now I just try to eat alot of food with vegetables, etc, and just not waste food like throwing out half my burger cause I'm full. I don't diet and I hate watching people enter restaurants only "allowing" themselves to have half what they order and not even wrappping up the other half for a meal the next day. That's a waste.

If vegans did it to eat healthy, it wouldn't be a problem. But it's not like one day, EVERYONE will be vegan. That's a pipe dream. That will never happen. It was a vegan thread, and Rusty voiced his opinion on vegans. No one has to like or respect his opinion, but at least it's partially on topic. Freedom of speech is a wonderful gift bestowed upon many people, unless of course you use it against someone.

What I really hate about PETA is how low they are willing to go to get their point across. I remember reading a while back about how they used the holocaust to promote their agenda. And another thing is how they used the victims of the pickton farm (mass murders in british columbia) to further their agenda once again. It's pathetic.

Those things are some of the reasons I hate PETA and don't believe in veganism (sp?).

I can understand your dislike for PETA, but why would that make you hate veganism(is that a word) in general?
