Heres some stuff going on in the background.

1) December is a tough month, what will all the holidays during and just prior. Plus most people here are also going to school and those that dont have hard decembers to begin with (year end work anyone?). Mainly, this month, there is little that can happen till atleast some vacations start.

2) A few things are being prepared now for January. It is difficult to actually advertise the site, as already mentioned by torrino due to the way it started. The main page needs working.

3) Due to that very reason, we just recently started talking together (all those that contribute to the main site about the different avenues and changes that can be made). A few ideas are already looking good, a few ideas are being experimented erratically right now (trailers, predictions, opinion columns, mailing list). But to be honest, there is a lot being planned. Once something actually feels concrete, I'll be informing everyone again. And dont be surprised if someone gets a PM from me or another person soon asking for soemthing for the site ... like i said, quite a few ideas.

4) BOP and BOG have been contacted. Just waiting ...

5) Till the site itself doesn't have a change of feel or a little more to offer, its not advisable to actually advertise it. What IS good though is what appy n all suggested. If you are members somewhere else, advertise using signatures. Try contacting personal friends or acquaintances to join ... atleast for the next month or 2, its a good strategy while the main site creates a structure.

I'd love to help out, but I need to know one thing first:


Can I legally use box office data from BOM/the-number's, etc. and post it here? I mean, on the site, not the forum?

It's not data that is directly present there at those sites; I have obviously used that as ground work to come up with other data. For examples, all the admissions figures are calculated by me.

I just need to know what the deal is with that. If it's ok, I'd love to submit a set of features baout different aspects of the box office. I have the info and data, and can make about as many charts and graphs as time allows me to.

However, not before Dec. 17th. I'm busy as hell before that.

What do you think?

I like the site just the way it is. I've been on many sites that start out small and become huge. Things changed and the way posters posted changed. it lost its closeness and soon became just a place to write reviews no one talked anymore. The site soon died casue people lost interest in coming.

I think there is an advantage for us here; we have been with the site since the beginning, so each addition automatically gets takne in by us. This way, we can keep a cool perspective on it.

Also, we've got rusty. When nothing else helps, that'll pull us through, If that doesn't help, we'll just unleash Mr. X on all the threads. He knows how to take care of them

I am not completly sure, but I wouldn't worry to hard about it. If you are really concerned you can always cite where you got the numbers, and then I can add in a link to the site where you got it from.

I think that we will stay relativly small. This site will never be as big as BOM, and I wont ever take it in a direction that I feel would harm the community. But at the same time, the main site needs more content, things to make it useful to read and helps bring in an occasional member or two that we may never have known otherwise.

You can't be afraid to grow, and meet new people, if we were, I would never have posted that link, and none of us would ever have met you! Plus I have plans to start incorporating games into the main site too, anything and everything to increase the fun! Possibilities are endless since it is my site ... and thus we all have complete control.

Well, the thing is that in a lot of cases, they are worked over quite a bit, so that the source really is...me.

I just made a post in the box office forum, and I posted a chart of films with 3,000+ average admissions/theatre on opening weekend. I calculated that data myself; you won't find it anywhere else on the net, but its base, three or four degrees removed (meaning, its four or so calculations from the original) is from BOM's weekend data. But that data itself specifically isn't.

Which is why you are one of a kind box.

But I dont think it would be a big problem, or something that you should worry about.

Well, those of us who attend college have a perfect oppurtunity. Perhaps flyers? I know there are alot of internet junkies(like myself :wink: ) In college, especially around here. I think flyers...announcments...something like that could work.

Howeve Im confused as to what kind of site to really call it...A movie site? A forum? A political debate site?....ect

Ok, great. I'll try to squeez in a proto-type this weekend, but I dunno if it will get done in time.

Its not that i'm afraide of it growing. Its just when forums get big nasty things tend to happen. I'm not saying that it would happen here but I have seen it happen many times at other forums. I would love to see people keep coming and this site grow but along with the site growing you are gonna get trolls and stuff like what happened to Lovemerox. I have had what happen to lovemerox happen to me at one site. And I can say one thing Bill handled it way better then I did.

someone was posting nasty things and doing it well I was online they would edit what I wrote and change my profile and my sig. At firsdt I thought it was one of the mods fucking with me as a joke but all 12 of them told me no. So I freaked out and fought with them all and got one to change my password and I made a new account.

LMR, I think the university promotionis a great idea. Again though, I think we should wait till the main site is more concrete.

Yea i really think it is .. maybe a little subtle then flyers (I dont think Eagle or anyone wants people spending money out of their pockets to make flyers n stuff ...) but university promotion itself is great!

Well I have access to the communications department, which if your a student(which Im not) you can get free paper, ink....ect. Im good friends with a t.a. in the department though so its all good

why not join this forum with a movie website like say movie-fever. They're forums doesn't seem to be doing that well off compared to this one.
