Well considering every fifth person you know wears a turban or has family that frequently wears turbans, it isn't any surprise that the "hookah" is popular. And speaking of this "hookah", I've never used one. Never seen one either.

For those that don't know, a hookah is the name of that pipe thingy and it is designed to smoke a special flavored tobacco. It can be used as a bong to smoke marijuana, and I have encountered and confiscated those that were used in that manner. However, it's not very often that I run across them as most dopers aren't so fancy, and mostly use something like a hillbilly rigged up 2 Liter plastic pop bottle as their bong, as the potheads usually live in trailer parks, have no job, and can't figure out how to order a fancy hookah from the internet.

For myself, I don't smoke, never have, never will.

I usually cry myself asleep all alone covered in my own vomit, and those patches of skin that aren't covered in puke are colored bright yellow from the liver failure. I think the only way I know what a hookah is, is because you mentioned it a few months ago. But, I think you used that other word for it. Shisha? I think.

Ahh yes, hookah. We've got one in our house, although we call it 'arghileh.' I'm also somewhat surprised that so many people don't know what hookah is.. where've ya'll been? heheh..

Hookah is great because it's incredibly mild (both the consistency of the smoke and the buzz), tastes absolutely delicious, its a chill way to socialize, smoke-rings, etc....

and no worries about getting addicted to it.... it's pretty much impossible, unless you buy your own hookah and load up on flavoured tobacco. Trust me, I've got a pretty addictive personality and I've never been anywhere near addicted to hookah. I've never heard of anyone 'starting out on hookah' and moving on to cigarettes or anything.

My favorite straight up flavour is strawberry.... yummm. Mixing two different flavours can be awesome too... try vanilla + mint, or strawberry + peach.
