Yeah Crimson Peak would have been a much better winner than Mad Max. SW7 and MM:FF weren't a great choice for Costume nomination but whatever.

I was out of town this weekend and didn't have internet access except on my phone and that would be a pain to vote with. I saw the notices about voting that I was sent tonight but it was too late. For some reason I thought they were next weekend.

Best Adapted Screeplay
These nominated 5 stories that were known to audience by some form of media were transformed to big screen with the artistic brilliance.

Adam McKay and Charles Randolph
The Big Short : In 2008, Wall Street guru Michael Burry realizes that a number of subprime home loans are in danger of defaulting. Burry bets against the housing market by throwing more than $1 billion of his investors' money into credit default swaps. His actions attract the attention of banker Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling), hedge-fund specialist Mark Baum (Steve Carell) and other greedy opportunists. Together, these men make a fortune by taking full advantage of the impending economic collapse in America.

Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman
Kingsman: The Secret Service : Gary "Eggsy" Unwin (Taron Egerton), whose late father secretly worked for a spy organization, lives in a South London housing estate and seems headed for a life behind bars. However, dapper agent Harry Hart (Colin Firth) recognizes potential in the youth and recruits him to be a trainee in the secret service. Meanwhile, villainous Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) launches a diabolical plan to solve the problem of climate change via a worldwide killing spree.

Aaron Sorkin
Steve Jobs : With public anticipation running high, Apple Inc. co-founders Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender) and Steve "Woz" Wozniak get ready to unveil the first Macintosh in 1984. Jobs must also deal with personal issues related to ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan and their young daughter Lisa. Eventually fired, Jobs launches NeXT Inc. and prepares to release a new computer model in 1988. Ten years later, Jobs is back at Apple Inc. and about to revolutionize the industry once again with the iMac.

Emma Donoghue
Room : Held captive for years in an enclosed space, a woman (Brie Larson) and her 5-year-old son (Jacob Tremblay) finally gain their freedom, allowing the boy to experience the outside world for the first time.

Drew Goddard
The Martian : When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.

And the Winner is....

I know. I would have voted for it for everything it was nominated for. Hopefully it's not runner-up for something so I feel even worse. :P

I voted for The Big Short, but I would also be entirely pleased with a win for Room or Steve Jobs.

Please, not Kingsman or The Martian.

So the winner is

Drew Goddard (The Martian)

Runner-ups: TIE Adam McKay & Charles Randolph, The Big Short AND Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldman, Kingsman: The Secret Service AND Aaron Sorkin, Steve Jobs (each fell one vote short)

LOL. Those are the only two I've seen, so I had to pick one. I went with Martian.

I dig Goddard in general, but The Martian's script is so...eh. The rhythm (peril - easy solution - gag - peril - easy solution - gag) becomes a crushing bore.

A four-way tie would have been awesome. Too bad.

Every single nominee was leading at some point.

The Martian's script owes almost everything to its source material, though.

This category is a tad anemic this year with only three nominees. Phoenix is a great, great film, though, and I am pulling for it.

I have heard many say The Assassin is deadly dull and others say it is a masterpiece. I have not seen it yet myself.
