The first post has the categories, so pick whatever one you see that doesn't have a member name next to it, and I'll edit you in.

Thanks, Maverikk

I'll be holding off as long as possible (until I see all I can, that is) before I send my votes in.
Sideways, The Aviator, Finding Neverland, Ray, and Hotel Rwanda are still calling...

dolcevita wrote: Damn makeshift, you're the greatest ever! I can't believe someone is actually listening to one of my recommendations. Have I ever told you how awsome you are? I'm sure I have, but regardless I'll say it again. I have no idea how to go about getting good subtitles because I've never downloaded a movie, but at this point I'm practically willing to learn Spanish, fly over to Ashland, and translate it for you directly. yeah about the opening credits, they're already gripping, and that music should definately have gotten a best score nod at the oscars...come to think about it, everything about this movie should have gotten nods at the oscars. That's ok, I have faith that WorldofKJ will give it much more lovin' since I consider so many people here to have good movie taste.
Well, I just finished it, and I have to say that it was pretty damn amazing. Almodóvar is a flat out visual genius (there are so many shots in this film that gave me chills), and Gael GarcÃÂa Bernal absolutely scorches the screen. I haven't seen a great film noir in a long time, so this really hit the spot. How interesting was it that the stereotypical femme fatal found in all noir was a man in drag? Just brilliant stuff going on in this film. I also didin't find the bending of time and reality to be all that confusing, which is a criticism i've heard a lot for this film. Almodóvar's play with the aspect ratio makes it rather easy to follow, I thought. And, oh - the musical score was incredible! It was like a hybird of Elfman and Badalamenti. Great stuff. The only thing I felt was missing was a lack of a real emotional punch, but that probably has more to do with me watching it on a computer screen than the film itself. Overall, though, it's easily one of the best films of 2004. Stunning visuals, brilliant and original script filled with mind boggling twists and turns, some amazing acting, and the best musical score i've heard in years. This is like Almodovar's "Vertigo", in more ways than one. Just a masterful film. I can't wait to buy the DVD.
BTW - Why was this film rated NC-17? I think this says more about the MPAA's apparent homophobia than the content of the film, which would have easily been given an R had the sex scenes featured a man and a woman (or two women, for that matter). Hypocrisy - gotta love it!

You might want to edit this into the first post, as I'm not sure people would appreciate digging through five pages to get this criteria.

Oh, and what's the staus on Hero. Will we include that in nominations, or is it inelligible since it was elligable technically two years ago? Is it a Foreign Language film as well? (I can't remember if it was subtitled or dubbed)

Hero is eligible in all categories (well, except for Horror, Comedy, Sequal), including Foreign Film.

The rules are clearly stated in the ballot dolce sent out. Try to use that one instead of copying and pasting the categories youself and thus not clear about the rules/procedures. If you haven't received a ballot, let us know.
One thing I do like to add to the first post is that Best Soundtrack category didn't make into the ballot when dolce sent them, so we probably want to alert people about it.

Yeah, it's all animation. Actually I'm not going to prevent people from voting Hero in Horror or Comedy since some do find its action sequences laughable or its political tone horrible.

BTW, I am going to announce the nominations live here at 6:30PM, PST, on February 17 (in a new thread). To increase the suspense, it'll be one category at a time.

Hmm, maybe I'll announce it first.

that would be a twist since so many people are use to that being the last one.

Maverikk or dolcevita,
I'm new to this presenting stuff. What exactly does the presenter of a category do?

Ok, here's the deal. Everybody writes their speech for the award they are presenting. How you write it is up to you, but here is an example of how I'm doing mine. This is in one post.
I'll start it off with a paragraph in which I talk about the category, and what it means to movies. Then I'll give the nominations, with pictures and commentary about each one, and then I'll say something to the effect of "and the winner is..."
That's the end of the speech post.
After posting that, and reading the entire post once it's posted, I'll post the winner.
I'll be hosting the show, which means that you'll have to PM me your speech no later than 3 days before the show date, incase something happens to prevent you from being there. This assures it will be written, and the show can go off without any delays. These shows will run too long if measures aren't taken in such cases. If you forget, I'll PM and remind you and whoever else that I need their speech.
There will also be a specific order, so you'll have to be paying attention, because I will be introducing all of the presenters. I will be trying to do my best impression of a stale humored awards' host, and plan on giving you each a unique introduction. After I introduce you, you post your presentation. After you post it, read it, then post the winner. Everybody in the audience reacts, either by cheering or booing and hissing.
I'm going to try to create the banquet type atmosphere, so I hope everybody enjoys it, and has a great time. These only come around once a year, and since this is our first, we should make sure it sets a good example for us to follow next year and beyond.

No problem. I'll be sending out something similiar to that to all of the presenters once I recieve thier speeches, so that they have everything handy, and there aren't any mixups, so , to use some famous last words, everything will be fine. [-o<
