I don't think so, no. This was a bigger win (percentage-wise) than Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight.

I voted for The Big Short for editing. A flashy choice, but it truly is a feat of high-tension, high-wire, many-pots-boiling assemblage.

I don't know if I've voted for any winner besides Inside Out.

Best Editing

There is a reason why Best Editing is by far the most important technical category when it comes to the race for the Best Picture Oscar. Often times it is the deciding factor in a film's chances at winning the big prize and the importance of editing in a movie cannot be stressed enough. The director is responsible for the single elements of the film coming together and putting his stamp on the picture. The cinematographer captures the director's vision on film (or he used to, until going digital). The effects, set design, makeup and costume teams give the film its look. But in the end it is the editor, usually in close collaboration with the director, who is responsible for sorting the wheat from the chaff. Every year we see badly edited, overlong movies or badly chopped action scenes, in which you cannot tell what is actually happening. These films are showcases of the importance of good editing. Finding the right balance between what to keep and what to leave on the cutting room floor and deciding when enough is enough and when a scene has to end are essential to a movie's ultimate quality.

Matt Damon plays Mark Watney, an astronaut and botanist forced to rely on his courage and intelligence when he is left behind on Mars after an abrupt planetary evacuation. Much of the film pivots on Damon's movie-star magnetism as the protagonist endures the red planet alone and records humorous video diaries to remain grounded and sane. Millions of moviegoers worldwide invested in the character's plight and were inspired by his resilience and can-do effort, which is surely a testament to Damon's achievement.



Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a frontiersman and hunter who barely survives an encounter with a mother bear, is left for dead by treacherous members of his expedition, and begins a mythic journey toward civilization and retribution. The extent of the actor's physical commitment—he ate a bison liver raw, he plunged into icy rivers—has already become industry legend, and his mostly silent intensity is the sure ground upon which the enormity of The Revenant is constructed.



Michael Fassbender in Steve Jobs

Michael Fassbender plays divisive and visionary technology entrepreneur Steve Jobs. In turn charismatic and icy, the actor captures the paradox of a man whose blend of chic, simple conceptual vision and on-stage showmanship helped democratize personal computing despite his closed-system megalomania and a fractious relationship with most of his partners and employees.



Michael B. Jordan in Creed

Michael B. Jordan plays Adonis Johnson, an ambitious and angry boxer who never knew his late father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, but enlists Creed's friend and rival Rocky Balboa as a trainer. An agile, muscular, and entirely authentic presence in the ring, Jordan's portrayal of his character's personal evolution (from incendiary to disciplined) is also commanding.



Jacob Tremblay in Room

Jacob Tremblay plays Jack, a 5-year-old born and raised within a small, soundproofed shed. Though the product of rape and always in danger, his mother ensures his mental and physical health with a daily regimen of exercise, imagination, and nurturing. This story of a transcendent parent-child bond is chiefly told through his character's naïve eyes, and the fresh-faced Tremblay's performance is auspicious and nuanced by any measure.
