I made it here. I hope everyone else does. This was a really good discussion.
In the format mess, I don't remember exactly who said what, but, to whoever said that "there are more important things to worry about:" REALLY, is there anything more important than the Constitution and Amendments?
You can't even argue that preventing deaths is less important than our Constitution. If you do that, then you are denying the sacrifice of those people who died -- willingly -- for the Constitution and what it stands for.

I believe I said that.
And I stand by it.
I've repeated myself too many times now so hopefully if you're still interested in my reasoning and have the time, look over the format mess again.

Yes, but you're Canadian. Our Constitution doesn't apply to you, so your perspective is obviously different. For those of us under the banner of the Constitution, defending it and upholding it's tenents are much more important than someone for whom they don't apply.

To some Americans (like me) the Constitution is our Bible. We love it and want to protect it and believe in the words, and get upset when people don't follow its "commandments".
How's that for a metaphor?

Jesus's teachings are great regardless of what religion you are a part of. he preaches kindness and things that should be ingrained into everyones human nature weather you believe he is a God or not.
The ten commandments are ten rules that everyone should follow, regardless of religion, they will imply make you a better person.
I agree, but it doesn't mean lying (which you shoudln't do according to the ten commandments....i think...should be punishable by law, or it's something everyone has to be subjected to them wether they're part of that religion or not) the ten commandments are common sense for the most part, about what you shouldn't do as a "good" human being, it doesn't mean tehy belong anywhere near any kind of legal system.
And like Mike V said, if the ten commandments go up, then all other "commandments/teachings" from other religions have jsut as much of a right.
And finally, while he probably would agree judging by the bible, the ten commandments have nothing to do with jesus, and came before him

OT: Mike, your sig is also something Barry Goldwater once said when he was denied entry to a golf course in a country club - "I'm only half-Jewish, can I play nine holes?"
