Post George Carlin
You either love him or you hate him. I love the guy. He has always provided me with laughs. Anyone familiar with Carlin, and who has seen most of his stand-up specials knows there are three eras of Carlin.

Mid to Late 1970s: Cuter Carlin Humor (more of the daily observations, with some hilarious one-liners. one of the few longer rants was "The 7 Words You Can't Say on TV"... lots of hilarious voices and faces, that make his act that much more enjoyable to watch way back when)

Early to Mid 1980s: Same Cute Carlin Humor, but a bit louder and a bit angrier (shorter hair and longer rants started Carlin on a trend that would inevitably lead to his latest era)

Late 1980s to Present: Lots of Angry, Bitter Carlin (mostly politics and world events, that provide some of the most brilliant comedy ever, almost completely abandoning his one-liners and daily observations)

I love the earliest of George Carlin specials. These are amazingly fun to watch over and over again, because his jokes are backed up with hilarious voices and faces that have me laughing everytime. I still love Carlin now, but his humor is more angry, and is more centered on politics and world events. Daily observations are nearly gone, and it's basically just rants.

George Carlin's books are all great, but the best is the first, entitled "Brain Droppings". Lots of the great early Carlin bits, including "Baseball and Football" and "A Place for your Stuff". His second book, "Napalm and Silly Putty" is almost just as great, especially for rants on cars and airplanes. And finally, his latest book called "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?" is a great book, but I find most of his later work is included, which doesn't always transfer well to paper. He splits up "Euphimisms" into a few parts throughout the book, along with some faux advertisements ("Be a Doctor Now!", "Become a Schmuck"), and I found much of the book is very uneven. It's still a great read, but if I see all three and want some quick and fun reading, I'd go with the first two over the third.

So, anyone else like George Carlin? The man is often times brilliant and genius. Not always, but many times. I'll post some great one-liners eventually. If you've never heard Carlin, and you enjoy political humor, check out his later CDs and concerts. But, if you're a fan of just nice, plain humor, full of your daily observations, his earliest stuff is best. Oh, and prudes who can't take vulgar language should steer clear.

I think he is a great comedian. He has some really good points (especially the things he said about honor student bumper stickers, and food that sounds to silly to eat).
