THE DIAGNOSIS: Doctors said on Saturday that poison caused the mysterious illness that disfigured Viktor Yushchenko's face during the presidential campaign.

THE POISON: Dioxin, a pollutant usually found in small amounts in the environment, could have been put in Yushchenko's soup, doctors said.

THE RESPONSE: Supporters of the opposition candidate expressed little surprise, saying they suspected poison all along. Representatives of the rival candidate denied wrongdoing.
