:wink: I always mention that I don't mean to generalize when I talk about certain groups, there are always exceptions. Many of them...sometimes a majority.

But still I bet most of the people who are in this thread saying atheists shouldn't celebrate Christmas are jumping for joyyyy when Halloweed comes around. ...And I won't get into the history of halloween and it's original purposes :wink:

See this is a fundamental misunderstanding.

Athiests do not believe in a god, a higher power or multiple gods. They do not however denounce other religious docterines any more than a Christian would denounce Muslims.

Get this fundamentally clear, Atheists are still people with traditions and celebrations, they just do NOT believe that there is a god.

While that is true, a non belief in the existance of God automatically negates belief in something like a religion and practices specifically related to it. Yes, they do not denounce other religions any more than a Christian would denounce Muslims. I completely agree with that. But there is a slight subtlety(did I spell that correct?) here. Most Muslims themselves believe a lot of what Christianity is about.


This brings up the whole "origion of Christmas" debate... whether or not Jesus was born in something approximating February and that the Catholic leagues, in effort to co-opt Paganistic rituals, tacked on the additional part about Jesus' birth.

This is a pretty funny thread, and was an enjoyable read. Unfortunately, I learned a few things too, and I don't come here to learn, so that was kind of a downer. Oh, and it was long. I feel it my duty to do a summary for those who came in late, like me.

Unfortuantely though, that is a completely unfair assumption to make. The fact is the holiday is older then Christianity, you cannot just dsicount facts like that for the sake of argument, because you are basically telling your debate opponent, sorry but I am just going to make some assumptions so that you have nothing to debate.

Thats not the point I was making to begin with. Going back to the beginning of the thread, the argument was pretty much based upon WITH THE assumption that christmas was a christian tradition. The fact is, many see it as such today as well. hence the comparison between the 2 holidays IS like comparing apples to oranges.

I'm very afraid of what kind of offspring we would produce. It's this type of mixing up the gene pool that creates mutant babies like bABA, Rusty, Ripper, Snrub, Krem, and loyalfromlondon. I think it's best if I stick with my current plan to mate with Jennifer Garner. I think it'll be best for everyone that way, and we would make babies that are halfway good looking.
