 Republicans plan election reform.
Wow, I didn't expect that to be on their agenda, considering that the current system benefitted GOPs in 2000, but they are going forward with it.
Check it out here.
Here are some details.
Quote: "When the average citizen hears the phrase 'presidential election,' he thinks of long lines at polling places and agonizing waits as election results are tallied," U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) told reporters Monday. "Putting the election of our public officials into the hands of private industry would motivate election officials to be more efficient."
"There's too much talk about the accuracy and fairness of our national elections, and not enough about their proficiency and profitability," Santorum added. "Who bears the brunt of bureaucratic waste? Taxpayers."
U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) called for an end to "big government overseeing the election of big government."
"It's time we opened the election process to competition," Burns said. "The free market is the petri dish for innovation, be it in telecommunications, the healthcare system, or democracy."
Burns said that, to create healthy market activity, each congressional district should be able to collect bids and offer contracts to the company that can offer the lowest prices and the best service.
Sounds pretty radical to me, but, as a libertarian, I support it! Now, who's with me?

I'm with you. Everyone knows that private sector operations go much more smoothly than do public sector operations.
I bet someone below me says something like buisness's are pro Republican and therefore would cheat to benefit Republicans. Well, on the surface it might seem that way, but I don't think they would want to alienate that many prospective "customers".

This thread is a great test to see how many people actually click on a link (or even hover their mouse over it) before commenting on it. Nice one, Krem.
Also in the news, Teen Handed Awesome Responsibility Of Closing Subway Alone.

The republicans like to privatize everything.
Why not the elections?

I like the editors there. The choice of Santorum was shrewd. You still keeping a tally, Archie?

My favorite headline of course was the November 3rd one: "God Puts His Tool
Back Into Office".

"Aschcroft replaced by Mexican" from the current issue is very subtle too.

Well at least they're blunt about it all.
