 --Update--
Server rollover should begin today at about 5-6 and commence tomorrow at 4-7. We will be working to lose as few posts as possible between now and then.
Only posts made from now till tomorrow at 7 are in jepordy, and all other posts should be just fine.
One option is locking the board for the next 24 hours, but I personally would rather take my chances. This should allleviate all of the slowness, and connectivity problems we have been having.

How do the posts actually get lost during this process?

Well
I will download a backup at 5pm tonight and upload that onto the new server, so that means the board will be up over there.
Then we have to roll the domain over, which takes 24 hours. When it is finished instead of http://www.worldofkj.com taking you here, it will take you to the new server.
But all the posts since 5pm are still not backed up, so it will seem as though they are lost. I will be backing up the board every 15 min from 5pm tomorrow on. As soon as I notice the rollover has occured, I will upload the new backup to the new server, but any posts made right after I backed up and before the server switched will be lost.

Yes they can.
The site is switching servers.
it takes a period of 24 hours for the switch.
during this time, there are 2 copies: one on the new server and one on the old. While the website remains static, the forum is continually updated on the old server. whatever happens between now and the switch is happening on the old server so all this WILL be lost if not backed up. I believe KJ (and whatever help I can provide) is gonna try his best to keep the thing backed up but I was explained the process to be very strenous.
Basically all changes can be lost .. posts, threads, deletions, locks .. anything during this time .... but hopefully, the damage is minimal.

The only way threads would be lost is threads that are created between 5pm today and 5pm tomorrow.
Realisticly and if all goes as planned, the only things that could be lost are the posts made from 4pm tomorow onward.

But only posts that were made during that time might get lost, right?

Can PM's get lost? Predictions for the various games will be coming, and some through PM.
