That church is just stunning and layered with history. The lower church is just, really you get a sense of late-Medieval Italy at its finest. The Upper church has a Giotto cycle of St. Francis. Itsmuch more structured and higher. The lower church is surprisinglyly low and makes for a great sort of eerie cell feeling. The tomb/shrine underneath is very simple compared to other ones throughout Italy for other saints, but it is all the more moving because of seeing all the visitors there. The cloister is fantastic, in fact everything in that building is. :-) Plus the town is just this beutiful white stone and very walkable. The other churches are great too, so it the fortification at the top, and there are cave cells from the Franciscans if you're willing to wlak a couple kilometers that are just so interesting. Really you should go Maddie. I have my pictures from when I visted during an annual medieval festival they have there. PLan to go then. The entire city reinacts a play in the main square and streets. Everyones outfits were tops. Very friendly people there, too. Wish I had a scanner I would scan my photos and show them to you (this was the era before I owned a digital camera!).

I like Sydney (I will even be there tomorrow) but Melbourne is superior What do you love about Melbourne getluv? Sydney is generally considered prettier though i prefer Melbourne. I'd go for Paris. There's beauty in the symmetry of the city, let alone the wonderful landmarks and history. Bruges is also very beautiful. More so than how it comes across in In Bruges. Sydney was dirty the last time i went there before today, but i give props to Melbourme. it feels more cosmopolitan and people in general dress better. and the buildings in Melbourne are nothing special but still interesting. so i guess i like the atmosphere of the city, with the beauty just an extension.

I've been to Siena, and I agree it's quite nice. I think I went to Assissi but I can't remember if i did.
Pisa is nice too. But i think Florence is still the best Italian city.

That description has sold me. I'll definately do it on my next Euro trip. If you ever do get a scanner, please do scan the pics.

Yeah I know what you mean. I dont mind Sydney in small doses. I guess I get sick of Melb - but it certainly has its good points. And it is more cosmopolitan.

I visited Paris too early to appreciate it. Like, twenty years too early.
