I would have held off on this topic until the day of the Eve, however, some things require forethought in preparation.

Is anyone here into Halloween? The horror houses put on by neighbors, schools, Rob Zombie, and by those in the trade? Freak Shows and things that squish in the dark? The amusement park makeovers for the season. Disneyland Halloween? Knott's Scary Farm? Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights? Ever wonder where Elvira went to?

So, what's going on in your area? DIY for friends and loved ones?? Spiders and snakes? Forgotten Sci-Fi props on loan? The Frankenstein Monster, assembled from the local butcher shop? And will you be going there?
By yourself?

I love Halloween. Been to a bunch of places. The prison in Philadelphia is probably the best one on the east coast. Extra bonus because they also shot shawshank there. This year a few parties, bar crawl, and movie marathon most likely.

Yeah, I don't know how it's going these days, but years ago Tom Savini put on a horror house near Pittsburgh. And here in L.A., Hollywood Blvd. used to draw hundreds of revelers, only to be sent home by a line of cops marching down the street in blockade formation around 9 P.M. I haven't even tried that stop lately, though I suspect it still goes on after dark.

Bob Burns worked at the CBS station in L.A. and at MGM, and he used to borrow props from classic movies. One year, he had The Time Machine from the George Pal motion picture. It was in his garage in Burbank, Ca, with fairly elaborate fog, lighting and FX. The machine and its very-large amber disk whirled and sputtered. And out of the fog with a fantastic burst of light, there suddenly appeared The Morlocks, with eager relish and intent upon their feastings. Again, many years ago. My Brothers and Sisters went to that, and the "Factory of Nightmares" in Northridge, Ca which is still held annually by Cal State University Northridge.

I might watch Halloween. But I'll probably do nothing. There are parties over here but I'm not interested.

Now that I have wheels, I'll be doing a fair bit this October.

I'll be partaking in an overnight Ghost Hunt at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum on the 23rd, followed by The Asylum Ball on the 24th. And I'll probably visit Antietam Battlefield the following week, either on the 28th or 29th.

And I may or may not go to a Samhain at Sunlight and Yoga 2000, Girard Ave in Baltimore, on the 31st. The fiancé isn't too interested, though, so we'll see.

If anyone lives in the area, I know we have a number of posters from MD/PA, I'm up for possible meet-ups.

My theatre club is putting on a haunted house as a fundraiser. I get to wear fancy makeup and be scary and everything. I can't wait. Hopefully I'll be able to trick or treating one last time too before I become an adult next year.

(Another old story). Many years ago, I had my neighbor Jerry, the Makeup Man put a bloody arms-length scar on my person. He did it by folding the skin and gluing the fold in place using Rigid Collodion, a surgical adhesive, and then painting it with deep purple black foundation and scarlet red makeup on top. And then I spent the evening running up and down the streets with my friends, accosting unsuspecting innocents and holding out my arm, howling in pain.

Well...when it was time to call it a night, Jerry was in bed, and I found out that the Collodion will not remove itself easily. It glues to the skin. And Jerry applied it in a large, thick single glob the entire length of my arm. . I had to scrub and peel it with alcohol, and it wouldn't let go of the vellus hairs without a rip. I think Jerry was funnin' me.

His stage name was Gerald, and he got his big break working makeup for the film, "Animal House". He also did the makeup and a bit part as Liz Renay's husband in the infamous, "Blackenstein". But that was a Z-Film with no budget. I think they used Campbell's Tomato Soup for the blood FX.
Liz Renay was/is Mickey Cohen's lady.

I will be going to my first haunted house this weekend. I'm going to die.
