I was thinking about who the most hated character in all of pop culture was, and I narrowed it down to Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones and Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. People hate Umbridge from Harry Potter and Denethor from LOTR, but I don't think its anywhere near as intense as the hatred felt for these two. Who do you want to punch in the face more whenever they come on screen?

Personally, I think Joffrey is the most disgusting character ever to exist in anything ever, while I never found Jar Jar particularly annoying at all.

Joffrey has things we would like such as: being a king, unlimited wealth, unlimited women, having people killed, ruling a Kingdom

Most disgusting character ever. I'll throw in Ben Kingsley's character from Sexy Beast. I wanted his character to just die and was happy when it happened. I've never experienced a film character just make me sick like his. Great acting.

Second choice would be the pig from Irreversible who just causes such ruin to three people's lives. Disgusting. Nothing special in terms of the acting because it was a bit part.

Joffrey does well at his purpose: being a hateable villain.

I think it's been said a lot the Alfrid from battle of the five Armies has dethroned Jar Jar. At least Jar Jar had an arc and the ultimate fuck you as the guy that gave The Emperor control. Alfrid is the most pain inducing lack of comic relief/ point ever! And he almost has more scree time than Bilbo.

Jar Jar is annoying, but he's not even worthy of being in a discussion with Joffrey Baratheon. Dude executed his fiance's father right in front of her and then made her look at his severed head on a spike. What a great little shit of a character.

Clearly, Joffrey was one of the evilest, vilest characters ever. Well written to the point where we all hated him. I voted for him.

Jar Jar, by comparison, was not evil. He was just stupid, poorly written, unnecessary to the story, and insulting to our intelligence. He was hated not because he was written to be hated (like Joffrey) but because he ruined the film.

This makes it even more jar jar worthy. He could have been a great fun character for all we know but the way he was done and it's execution was just trash. Joffrey as a character hit his mark and should be praised.

I also think you can't really compare these. I have no hate for Jar-Jar the character whatsoever, but I think he's annoying, so annoying I wish he wasn't even in the movies. With Joffrey, I hate his guts, he's definitely the most awful character I remember seeing on tv, but I think he fits perfectly in GoT.
So in the end, I will vote Jar-Jar here, because my hate for Lucas for creating him is larger than my hate for Joffrey.

If the question is "Which character did you hate because it ruined the movie" Jar Jar wins hands down. If the question is "Which character did you hate because it was such a hateful character in and of itself?" Joffrey wins hands down.

I guess the question could be "Do you hate an annoying useless character or a despicable, disgusting character more?"

Joffrey, his death was far less torturous than I wish it had been.

As for Jar Jar......

Can't wait for that episode. Just finished Season 3, getting Season 4 on saturday.
