I think, in order to reach some sort of "enlightenment" you have to pass through a phase of cynicism. Without cynicism, I don't think you can have perspective.

The important thing is not to get stuck in the cynicism (which a lot of people do) but move beyond it.

It has a lot to do with confronting yourself and your opinions and emotions at various times of your life.

Well i do think that being cynical is kind of a side effect of having a wider world view in general - but its a negative side effect that oozes pretentiousness - as though "I know more about stuff than you, so lets be snooty, condescending and cynical of everything anyone else does"

I certainly dont think that to be intelligent you have to be cynical. I know that alot of people on these forums are alot smarter than their posts would lead you to believe; its just they arent "showoffy" about it and thats something youll find alot.

I used to be alot more cynical than i am now and its a personality trait i dont like ; sarcastic - maybe, the feeling that i shouldnt be living where i am - definately. But i am generally not a"downer" that way; im a cheery enough guy id say. Or id hope anyway #-o
