Re: Going to Pittsburgh for the first time tomorrow!!
Why would anybody be excited about going to Pittsburgh?
Seriously, I've done loads of research on Pittsburgh, and from what I can make out, it's not a good place at all, let alone a "touristy" place. But, I could be wrong.

Is the Cloud Factory real or just an invention of Michael Chabon's imagination?

There's lots of stuff to do!
I'm assuming you're downtown, or nearby, so I'd say go to the Warhol museum and ride the Incline are your two must do's. I think the Pirates are in town if you wanted to catch a game. There's also the Zoo, the Aviary, Phipps Conservatory, etc.

For the record, his main reason for going: Barry Manilow gig.

That is because of my mother, not my choice.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh for the first time tomorrow!!
I started life 45 miles from Pittsburgh, but many decades ago. I'm getting old.
I haven't even been to The Warhol Museum, but, unless things have certainly changed since that time of course,...
If you like Amusement Parks, there is Kennywood a few miles from Pittsburgh.
There are boat rides down the Allegheny River for a fee.
George A. Romero has his offices in or around there and has been known to stage events on rare occasions. In another area, the house used in the original "Night of the Living Dead" has sometimes been on display and/or used for "Halloween Nights". Romero's collaborator Tom Savini is also in the area and has taught FX at a local make-up school.
Gotta grab a classic Italian Hoagie. The best I've ever had is from Miller's Hoagies in my home town of Ford City, Pa., near the former Pittsburgh Plate Glass factory on the river, but that is 45 miles away from Pittsburgh and public transportation to Ford City, save for a reserved Shuttle Service, is Non-Existent. Everything in that hoagie is fresh from the butcher and baker, or used to be. Apologies in advance if you are a vegetarian. That I can understand very well.
EDIT: There have in the past been hot grill hoagies available at Pittsburgh Airport. They are not great, but not bad, but there are also some truly awful hoagies by a few vendors in the area, so be aware.
Later in the early Summer, in the outskirts and rural areas, you can find the natural pleasures such as wild raspberries and enjoy the evening fireflies with their flashes of illumination and, currently, the wild strawberries of Spring should be in season.
