Post Ok Guys. Need Help. Buying Car.
Ok.

Help!

First off, this all came about very sudden, and when you go looking for a car and need to buy one soon ... dealers smell blood and rip you off.

I am determined NOT to let this happen to me. I need info, I need help, I need you guys.

I am going on about 26 hours with no sleep, so keep me strait.

Right now ... I am looking at USED cars. I might be able to handle a new one but don't want to. I am going to go USED, so that is settled.

Right now I am looking at Chevrolet, but that is open to change if you can show me otherwise.

Right now I am looking at Impala's also open to change.

My price range ... for now let us say under 10,000$

Help?

umm .. how old.

if you're looking at upto 10000 dollars, you wanna get something that retains its value.

Note: American cars. Spend less. below 6K. Their price falls HARD!

Japanese cars: Look in the 6 to 9 range. If you find something cheaper in the last 5 or 6 years, GET IT CHECkED! cars like civics and carollas lose their value over a looooong period of time.

If its a saturn, you should be paying over 4k for anything over 3 years old.

Buy a certified car which GM, Chrysler and most car companies offer. These are used cars with warranties from the automaker instead of an extended warranty from a third party.

I would recommend the following,

1. Nissan Sentra
2. Toyota Corolla
3. Honda Civic
4. Dodge Stratus
5. Chevy Impala

All these fall within your price range for the years 2000-2002

2003
year Nissan Sentra
VIN: 3N1CB51DX3L713763
$9,870 price
49,975 mileage 5
0.00 mi
from ZIP Dealer seller

This is for Peoria. I think your dealer is a huge rip-off.

hybrids right now are like the biggest scams. they dont save you money, they are only somewhat environmentally friendly and the amount of gas actually saved with them is not all that much. freaking goota pay an exrta 5 to 6 Gs for one of those things ...

just get a decent civic. Fuel efficient and what not.

Well to be fair ...

The one I saw was a 2.0 liter engine instead of a 1.8 had about 63,000 miles and options.

Kelley Blue Book Retail value for "Excellent" condition (best possible condition) and the year 2000 is $9k. Your dealer is still off quite a bit.

Anyway check for a Dodge Stratus.

Ok guys.

Got a question ... maybe someone here will know ...

Say I buy a car ... new or used ... need to know the answer for both (I assume it is the same) ... and in August I want to cancel the insurance. Obviously I won't be driving the Car, it will be parked, and unmoving. Can I cancel the insurance or no?

I want to know because if I leave the car in Georgia while I go to school in Pittsburgh ... obviously I don't want to be paying insurance ... and to be honest, I don't want to pay the 300$ a month to have the car in Pittsburgh if I could cancel ... so?

Depends on several factors.

If you own it, all you need is liability insurance to satisfy state law.

If you finance it, the lending institution will require you to carry liability and comprehensive insurance. If you cancel your insurance they will cover you automatically with a much higher rate than regular insurance companies.

I'd cancel it. I've driven for months without insurance before (but i dont encourage it).

Anyway to find out how low I would be able to get the monthly insurance rate?

Go to progressive.com or esurance.com and you will get online quotes in minutes.
