 Re: World Cup 2014
Oh man, what a game. 30 seconds from joining Costa Rica in qualifying from the two toughest groups. Still, will take a point and the 2 goals scored, matching what Ghana did against Germany. It means the head-to-head result with them could be a factor in the end (e.g. we lose to Germany 0:1 and Ghana beat Portugal 1:0). With Germany almost certain to advance with high goal differential and not necessarily needing to worry about Group H opponents given the quality of matches there so far, and with Klinsmann being the coach, I think US can easily get a point or at least not losing by more than 1 goal.

 Re: World Cup 2014
The full set of scenarios for the US:
1. Beat Germany: group winner and advancing; 2. Tie Germany: group runner up and advancing; 3. Lose to Germany: a) if Portugal and Ghana tie: group runner up and advancing; b) if Portugal beat Ghana: advancing if the combined margin of Portugal winning and US losing is fewer than 5 goals; c) if Ghana beat Portugal: advancing if Ghana beat Portugal by the same margin as US losing to Germany, and Ghana doesn't score more goals.

 Re: World Cup 2014
Does actually the goal difference count or the direct encounter result? Its the goal difference right? Otherwise Germany and USA would already be in the next round?

France looks really good now to advance to quarterfinal; will likely play Germany there. Yep, I see that happening too. I think we'll win that. I don't think we'll make it through semi-finals, though. Looks like the top half will be much stronger than the bottom half with Costa Rica relegating Italy or Uruguay to 2nd position and in Brazil's quarter (of course there is still the possibility of CR losing the top spot if they don't play well against England). If things hold, the likelihood of a Netherlands/Argentina semifinal will be pretty high. I think we could see a surprise with either Chile or Costa Rica against Agentina in semifinals. Provided Chile defeats the Netherlands in their next match. If Chile beat Netherlands, Brazil will for sure try to lose/draw their way to the second place though.

 Re: World Cup 2014
Brazil NEEDS to win, just in case Mexico loses. Letting Cameroon score their first goal of the World Cup doesn't help.
Luckily they have NEYMAHHHH
