As Good As It Gets
As Good as It GetsQuote: As Good as It Gets is a 1997 American romantic comedy film directed by James L. Brooks and produced by Laura Ziskin. It stars Jack Nicholson as a misanthropic, obsessive-compulsive novelist, Helen Hunt as a single mother with an asthmatic son, and Greg Kinnear as a gay artist. The screenplay was written by Mark Andrus and James L. Brooks.
Both Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt won the Academy Award for Best Actor and Academy Award for Best Actress, respectively, making As Good As It Gets the last film to win both of the lead acting awards, and the first since 1991. It is ranked 140th on Empire magazine's "The 500 Greatest Movies of All Time" list. A lot better than I was expecting. It reminded me of Sideways, where it was such a good film, but the "comedic" part of it, I didn't understand. I mean, I did laugh at some of things, like the jokes he made about Simon being gay. It sure as hell made a great romcom, though. Jack Nicholson was fantastic. Helen Hunt did very good, too. It was an intelligent, deep, and amusing movie. I liked it. B+

I HATED this movie, I thought it was just boring. I didn't laugh or cry or feel anything for any of the charactors.
3/10 (D-)

1. It's not boring. I think As Good As It Gets is, pardon me, as good as it gets in terms of flow and pacing.
2. It's not meant to be that hysterical.
3. If you didn't feel anything for the characters, name a movie where you did feel something for the characters. James Brooks isn't the best artistic director, but when it comes to developing his characters, he's the man to beat.
Nearly perfect. A

Very good movie. All of the actors give amazing performances, most notably Nicholson and Hunt. There are some really funny moments, and dramatic ones. But I really found it to be well done, and all the characters are all developed very well, even the supporting ones. James L. Brooks is an amazing director. Did anyone happen to spot Yeardley Smith as Simon's friend Jackie Simpson? She does the voice of Lisa Simpson on The Simpsons. That's really weird, she even has the same last name as her character on The Simpsons.

The acting is better than the overall movie itself, and Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson received very deserving Oscars (especially Helen). Greg Kinear also gave a great performance.

It really is as good as it gets, in terms of film. One of my favorites.

Great movie that I never get tired of watching. Everyone is great in this (even Cuba Gooding Jr.). Brooks may miss it sometimes (Spanglish, which I haven't seen), but when he gets it right, he knocks it out of the park. My grade: A.

Not even a mini review to tell us all why this is your favorite movie ever out of the thousands of films that you've seen over the years? What a ripoff. I want my money back!

It is not perfect, neither is it the masterpiece some make it out to be, but man, this is one really well-done movie with some amazing performances. Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt are amazing in it and both deservingly won their Oscars. I'd go as far as saying that this one was one of Nicholson's three best performances in his career. Hunt's performance is more subtle, yet more emotional. I didn't really buy Greg Kinear's character, but his performance was good as well. The flow of the movie, as torrino said, good and it has a neat score. Surely, it is somewhat predictable, but it is still one of the best representatives of its genre.

No, best line in the movie:
Woman: "How do you write women so well?"
Melvin: "I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability."

I'm surprised that you would like such a line, being a woman yourself.

Hah, it's not offensive because it's just so starkly cruel. Hard to explain.
